......cutting braid.  its all fun and games in the beginning with a fresh pair of pliers with side braid cutters.  darn near pleasurable.  then it starts to happen. the carbide blade and anvil starts to see some weather, some fish slime, etc.  you can almost feel it happening.  oh no!  are my cutters starting to dull?  I tried plenty.  so far, my PitBull braid scissors are still functioning.  but in the beginning I could clip loose braid easy.  now, they cut better with bit of tension.

I have a pair of Manley and Gerbers in my wish-box. I have yet to pull the trigger.  I will pay money for a long lasting pair of braid cutters.

out of curiosity.  what are you using and loving?

Cheap safety scissors.  They shear braid like "braid scissors" but are cheaper.

Those or kitchen scissors are fine too

Most all of my braid use is on spinning gear.

So 8 - 20 lb is where my needs lie.

After being mostly disappointed & somewhat frustrated by the lack of

'fishing' products 'designed' to cut braid, that actually did and would hold an edge,

a few years ago I went a different route and never looked back.

Pull braid tight, and any half decent pair of scissors will cut right through it easily. With larger diameter ones, a sharp nail clipper will work by squeezing tight, and pulling.

I got this RigRap Ceramax Super Cutters when it was on sale. It never gets rusted, quite effective and durable for cutting braid lines and living rubber jig skirts.

They last quite a while if you just stick to cutting braid.

they used to sell a 4” version of those (they might still but I haven't looked) that were the bees knees for fly tying. I still have my 20 year old pair in with my tying kit and I’m confident they could cut any hair, feather barb, or tying thread right now. Not only did the blades stay sharp, the pivot stayed incredibly tight.

this is a timely reminder as the scissors I was using for braid tonight just weren’t cutting it (pun fully intended). When I have a short tag end I don’t want to have to put tension on it to cut it. I’m going to update my Amazon basket tonight.

I use a tiny, keychain knife.  It slices through braid with ease.  I've tried several different cutters and scissors.  They all seem to work at first, but all seem to fail eventually.  I like one with just a 2" blade because it is easy to get close to the knot and convenient to keep on your body.

If you do go with scissors, I'd get some Fiskars.  They're the cheapest scissors you can find that are worth owning.  If you go too far above them in quality, you'll likely find that the scissors rust easily due to the higher carbon content that makes them hold an edge so well.  If you go below them, you'll likely find the scissors either dull or the pivot point wears out and they no longer shear.  Fiskars tend to strike the best balance for everyday use.

If I’m tying braid-to-leaders at home, I use a single-edge razor blade. I haven’t found anything that lets me trim braid as close and precise as that.

my fiskers like the ones shown above didn't get it done.  it would fold the braid and then fray it to heck.

granted mine are older and maybe dull.  these are the clippers favored by trimmers.

I had to do a TW order, so I added a pair of the Cuda 5".  looking forward to it.

Boomerang snip for carrying around and 3” cuda for at home. The worst thing you can do with these cutting tool is clipping the knot especially Nylon line. I almost always cutting mono line in the deepest parts of blade and leave the rest for braid line.
