Too bad ole reliable can't get it together anymore. Says my order won't process and ship until 5 days after it was placed, and every item was in stock. What the fudge? I don't even care why anymore. This is just stupid at this point. More than that it's simply bad business. Good thing other places have stepped up to fill the void with lightning fast shipping and very competitive pricing. I've been nothing but pleased shopping elsewhere.

You are not alone. Just cancelled an order last week that had been on backorder since Dec 27.

Only reason I placed an order with them back on Black Friday?

Someone gave me a gift cert...otherwise I go elsewhere now.

I avoid shopping online at all cost!

We have 2 local tackle shops, a country store with more tackle Academy or Dick's.

If it's rod-n-reels I'll drive 2.5 hours to Baton Rouge BPS or Cabelas. When I decide to pull the trigger I want it NOW!

I agree with your sentiment because I also like to support local businesses, but Silicon Valley isn't a hotbed of bass fishing so online shopping is pretty much de rigueur.

That’s for sure! It’s not just Silicon Valley, it’s the whole Bay Area. Local shops have been dead around here for a long time.

I don't call them 'local' as they are chains - but between Scheels and Fleet Farm I can find just about everything I need right here in the Metro.
If I'm really desperate - Omnia...order online, but it's 15 miles for me to pick up same-day.

I don't remember the last time I shopped at that place.  Its been that long.  I'm supporting my local bass pro/cabelas or ordering weird Japanese baits online.

I even steer clear of BPS/Cabelas now.

Mr. Siebert got me my order way faster than “ol reliable”. That’s saying something. Ol reliable ain’t gotta build my stuff before they ship it to me.

We have only two places left on this entire island that seem to give a poop about freshwater gear and baits. Salt rules around here. This is odd because there are hundreds of freshwater spots from end to end. As good as both are, and I buy what I can from both, neither carries all that my heart desires, so a man has to do what a man has to do. Besides that, I don't mind ordering online one bit, and often pay for fast shipping. But if I pay for fast shipping, and a company doesn't ship for days to a week after I order, they really don't give a hockey puck, so sayonara.

I could never understand that with them. I’d place an order with all items in stock and get a confirmation that the order was placed…with communication that my order would be shipped in a week. This was well before Covid too.

If it’s in stock, it should be shipped the next business day. I know a lot of places are short on employees, but this problem isn’t anything new. It’s just how they normally operate.

BPS and Cabela's used to be great. Now neither are worth a darn.

Thankfully my local Scheels has a great selection of baits. There are times when I order on-line...but I plan for at least a week's wait for shipping.

Well old reliable got me for a Black Friday order, and my card took a hit. Then after they made appeared to make changes on the checkout side I stocked up on plastics during the 25 days sale and the wife’s card took a hit. I had already started to spread my money around, and now it will take them being the only store to have an item to place an order. Also their pricing at some point changed to be more inline with BPS on a fair amount of items.

Will be interesting to see how they rebound. Being a loyal customer since 2014 I am a little disappointed, but are bank account is happier now. I just wish they would have said something other than the email that was sent out, unless they were told not too by lawyers.

Seeing Scheels being mentioned, they turned around my spinning reel order super fast, very impressed with order number one.

The Cabelas nearest me is still pretty good. Out of all the retailers near me including them, Fleet Farm, Scheels, and DSG, they still have the best tackle selection by far.

Scheels is decent too but in the winter they completely remove their open water fishing tackle and replace it with ice fishing stuff. Not a big fan. I went in there in October looking for Muskie tackle and it was already removed, and replaced with ice fishing stuff. They lost my business that day. People still buy open water fishing tackle here in the winter for Christmas gifts, etc. They need to figure out a way to have that stuff out all year round.

they do the same thing in the fargo, ND store.

I support small shops online. It’s so much easier now. Places like Omnia, the tackle trap, the hookup tackle, the reelshot, and ALF as well as others which will not be named. I don’t need one store to carry everything as most places carry most stuff and I can get it in my hand usually in two days.

I never shop at BPS or any of the box stores for fishing gear. I’m completely against it, considering how much they just rip off other manufacturers baits, gear, etc. Seeing the new “jig style swim bait” and “gilly” at icast was disappointing in the extreme.

It’s really not a good thing to be doing from a sales perspective. People do still buy open water fishing tackle from October - March.

I buy 90% of my tackle off of eBay anymore. Either through auctions or eBay stores.

I have been buying some stuff from tackle direct though lately.

I still order from old reliable all the time.  Much of what I purchase is not available in stores and as frustrating as they are, their selection is still tough to beat.  I just drop things in my wish list and buy when I get above $50 for free shipping.  If I need something immediately, I look elsewhere.

TackleWarehouse is my go-to. Great selection, service and prices.

I have not had delivery issues.

I find Tackle Warehouse to be much better than BPS.   Better website tells you if the item you want is out of stock and when it's expected to return, fast shipping and great packaging.  I bought two rods from Tackle Warehouse recently.  Both came within four days.  I ordered two marker buoys and a spool of line from BPS and it took two weeks.

Same as most.
The only time I go to big box store is if someone gives me a gift card or if I want to handle something before I buy it somewhere else.

A @PhishLI mentioned most all local shops around here cater to the salt water crowd with a minimal amount of fresh water offerings.

I probably buy 80% of my open water tackle during this time period to gear up for the upcoming season, rather than having to wait for it to be delivered during the open-water season. I also do most of my shopping online and when I go to Scheels or fleet farm it is to pick up an order or just find 2-3 random baits. If I'm being serious about stocking up I always go online.

I order from TW all the time. Recently they have become very slow at shipping things out. I ordered 10 items all are in stock. They only sent 2 out right away. Not sure when the rest will ship. Maybe like many, they are under staffed. I am not sure, but it has taken longer to get stuff. I still prefer their variety of stuff that is not found many places.
