Deebo Posted June 1, 2022 Posted June 1, 2022 I was looking at the do it 473388 gamakatsu ball head mold and was curious if you could use a 3/0 hook in the 3/8 oz and 1/2 oz. Or even downsizing to 2/0 in the 3/8 oz size. Looking to have a little heavier head for some small keitechs. I also use them in tubes. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted June 2, 2022 Super User Posted June 2, 2022 Generally you can go up or down at least one size with Do-It molds. If you really want the answer I suggest you buy the mold from Barlow's tackle. You can call and they will check to see if the hook fits. This and the fact that they list alternative hooks for a mold is why I like them. Allen. Quote

If its a matter of wire diameter, you can make it fit by inserting the hook and placing it in a vice or hitting on it with a mallet. Just know you might get some flashing when going back to a lighter wire hook. Nothing that cant be worked around. The bigger issue is the length of the shank to the eye. I have a mold that can take a 4/0 lightwire in the 1/2 oz size, but my ec 500bp’s have to long of an eye shank. In order for it to sit in the eye slot it has to sit at an angle which soesnt allow it to come out properly. Sure i could make it work, but at that point thats more work than i want to go to the trouble of. Take Munkin's advice and call or email Barlows. Quote
