LunkerJunky Posted May 28, 2022 Posted May 28, 2022 I am looking at another medium heavy rod for just another all around rod so I can have a few more techniques ready to throw. I am looking at several moderately priced rods such as the Daiwa Tatula rod, Lew's TP1 Black or another good rod for a decent price. Probably gonna pair the rod with a Shimano or Lew's reel. What do you guys think about lews rods? Any good for the same price as other brands? 1 Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted May 28, 2022 Super User Posted May 28, 2022 The 7'2" med-heavy TP-1 Black is a nice rod for the money. Nice grips too if you like the Winn grips. Also, it weighs the same as my 7'2" med-heavy Expride's. Quote
FrnkNsteen Posted May 28, 2022 Posted May 28, 2022 I've only got 1 Lews rod that I liked enough to buy. It's one of the newer Custom Speed Sticks (6'10" MH F Spinnerbait model) that have that "Gforce" Grip, or what ever it's called. The rest just don't feel right to me. I have a good friend that LOVES Lews rods! He has models ranging from the Mach series, to TP1, and Custom Lite. They are the first ones he looks at when we go hit different stores. To answer your question,.. I think they make good rods for their various price points. It's just personal preference if you like the feel of them or not. Quote
Eric 26 Posted May 28, 2022 Posted May 28, 2022 I have a few moderately priced Lews rods myself, if and when you can find them on sale I feel like they’re worth every penny. I have not handled the TP1 black series but I have the TP1 mod.fast and I’ve been very happy with it. Quote
gunsinger Posted May 28, 2022 Posted May 28, 2022 I have several Lews rods, the latest being a Carbon Fiber that I paid $50 for. It’s a MH, 7’2”. It’s my worm rod. I catch fish with it. That’s the testimony that matters. 2 Quote
jdr99a Posted May 28, 2022 Posted May 28, 2022 I like my lews tp1 black. It’s my favorite rod in its price point. I use mine as a swim jig/chatterbait rod and I love it. I can feel the ‘thump thump’ of the chatterbait blade on this rod better than others in its price point. If you told me I had to replace all my rods with tp1 blacks I wouldn’t be mad at you. Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 28, 2022 Super User Posted May 28, 2022 I have a TP1B74H 7'4" Heavy Fast, I use it for punching & frogging. I have 2 TP1B70MH 7' Medium Heavy Fast. My grandson uses one for Worms & my youngest son uses the other for jigs. Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 28, 2022 Super User Posted May 28, 2022 I know you asked about Lew's & not the Tatula. I have a Diawia Tatula TTU711MHXB, 7'1" Medium Heavy X-Fast. This is my choice in a jig rod. I also have a Tatula TTU731MHFB, 7'3" Medium Heavy Fast. I just have fun with this rod throwing everything from frogs to light punching. 1 Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted May 28, 2022 Super User Posted May 28, 2022 The Winn grips make the Lew's a no go for me. I've gone all in with a deck full of Ark Tharp Series this past year and I'm very happy with 'em. They're an outstanding value at their price point IMO. That said, those Tatula rods are pretty darn sweet too. I haven't got to fish one, but I checked 'em out at my local shop. Like the ARK's they're very nice for their price. I may pick one up next time I'm in the market for a new stick. Might be awhile though. With 14 Arks + all my old Abu's and Dobyns, I'm pretty well stocked at this point. Quote
QED Posted May 28, 2022 Posted May 28, 2022 I have a Lew’s Pro-Ti 68M and it is a great rod for its price point. It's fairly light at ~4.2 oz. Quote
