Has anyone  ever fished Falls Lake in NC? The wife and I are planning  a camping/fishing trip in the near future and I have been looking at this lake on the map and it looks very intriguing. Or if anyone has another suggestion I'm all ears. We are trying to stay around 3 hours or less from home. I live about 30 minutes south or Richmond. I have drawn a 3 hour circle from my house and there is a lot choices.

Lake gaston, falls lake, jordan lake, smith mountain lake are probably all within your 3 hour window. Never fished falls yet but fished SML and LG and I catch more at LG but the quality was better at SML. I've only been to SML once but I hear some arms are much better than others...i was not in one of the "better" arms.

There is more to do outside of the lake at Falls and Jordan since it is so close to Raleigh if that matters at all to you.

LG and SML both have places on the water you can pull your boat up to and eat if you or your wife want to go out for dinner or lunch on the lake.

Falls has big fish, but can be tough in warmer months and gets a lot of pressure relative to its size.  Personally I would rather go there in early spring or fall

It may be the Fall anyway, because I don't think the wife is going to camp in the Summer months. To be honest I'm not feeling camping in the Summer months either.

fall season would definitely be better for Falls than summer. the fishing is good there offshore during the summer but I went last year after not going for many years and the amount of boats there on a weekday was crazy. and of course many of those had no business being on the water with jet skis and wake boats. i'm sure it will fish a little tougher in the fall but plenty of options on where to fish.

You could hardly convince me to go onto one of those Raleigh heavy hitter lakes (Shearon Harris, Jordan, Falls) on a summer weekend. But I'm fishing from a kayak. What about a weekday? Sure I'll do that. Yeah, I am sure those lakes are fishing a little harder and especially once it gets deep into summer, but I heard a report from somebody recently that they caught a 36lb bag cranking 10ft deep at Jordan. They will continue fishing just fine, in spite of all the pressure.

I would go in fall for sure though. Sounds like fun

We always go during the week in the summer no matter what body on water we fish. I think we are going early fall, late September early November.
