SWVABass Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Can anyone fill me in on watts bar around this time of the year? Thinking of possibly fishing as a non boater for a BFL super event. Looking at past weights it seems like sept could be a crap shoot. What do you all think? Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted May 28, 2022 Global Moderator Posted May 28, 2022 the NPFL just held a tournament there, it finished up today. Patrick walters won it fishing a worm. September is typically some tough fishing, but it can vary. Should be good topwater fishing at daylight if nothing else. Also frogging in grass will be an option 1 Quote
SWVABass Posted May 28, 2022 Author Posted May 28, 2022 I was wondering how tough it could. Seems like the past results show non boaters in the mid twenties only catching one fish. I’ve read about the grass, is it still recovering/expanding or does TVA still try to kill it off? Quote

It’s always coming and going, TVA doesn’t kill it but they permit other companies to kill it. Watts bar has had some of the best grass on the river for a few years , I think I read something about them already fishing coon tail moss in that NPFL tournament 1 Quote
SWVABass Posted May 28, 2022 Author Posted May 28, 2022 Sweet, well sounds like I just need to go ahead and sign up for that BFL then. The non-boater success level had me really thinking hard about not fishing it. Though I have out fished my boaters in all but one tourney this year. Was one poor hook set away from a check at Cherokee last weekend. 1 Quote

I live in a much bigger city but my home water are way less crowded than those lakes, never understood that haha. It’s like driving through Mayberry to get to the ramp, then it’s like Times Square once you’re in the water Quote
SWVABass Posted May 30, 2022 Author Posted May 30, 2022 Not sure how the folks in the top 10 caught them. I caught all my fish cranking. I had a poor hook set on a wobble head with a tube. Pretty sure it was a smallmouth. Also had a good fish swipe at my spook first thing during the shad spawn that morning but missed. 1 Quote
TNBankFishing Posted May 31, 2022 Posted May 31, 2022 Saturday was normal bar fishing for my club. Out of 60 anglers about 20 skunked, water was crowded but the grass and fish are there. September can be tough if the heat doesn’t let up. If it’s still in the 90s expect a rough showing. 2 Quote
