For those of you that tie your own skirts on your jigs, I would like to tie on my own skirts.  I was wondering what size wire to use to tie them on?  I don't want to use the rubber band collars.

22-26 AWG, depending on the jig size, I get the copper spools at the craft stores.

I have tried some of that, must be doing something wrong cause it always breaks on me.

I use sewing thread and a cement to harden it

I have been using the bands from fishing skirts.com with good luck. If I were going to tie with thread I would give Semperfli nanosilk a look. I tie all of my predator flies with it.

22 gauge I believe is what I use also. Don't twist it too tight, might be why you're breaking it. I get mine on spools at Hobby Lobby for a couple bucks.

I’ve been using 24 gage.  I like the black painted/tinted wire the best

Somewhere on here I posted pics of how to wire tie a skirt.
