I never use braid under 50 lb test on a baitcaster. It's only 12 lb diameter. It casts just as far as 30 and sometimes further because it digs less

This has not been my experience. I get considerably more distance with 30. Line dig has also never been an issue with 20, 30 or 40 for me. I may get a little sticky spot after a hard hookset, but it's no biggie, it pulls right out.

One solution right there

I've also noticed when spooling braid most anglers don't put enough tension on the line. I spool all lines as tight as i can.

After a few cast you line will get "loose", this is an opportunity for braid to dig in on hookset. I'll make a really long cast, strip a couple arms lengths, pinch the line between my thumb/index finger & reel it back up as tight as possible.

That's a dumb Cajun's opinion!

Same.

I was pitching a swim bait for a while and the top layers were loose.  It was a good fish that hit close to the boat and the line dug down two or three layers. Just enough that you couldn’t pitch it without popping it free.  This was 30 lb 832 braid.

exact same experience with the 30# 832 for me on the fast flowing river yesterday. Casting abit up stream and the reeling in the slack as the lure flows to me.

I hooked a 3.5 lb smallie and in the current it felt like i hooked a whale.

After reeling it in with the drag at max and reeling against the drag the next cast i could hear the dig in and feel it when the dig in came out of the spool.

This is my first year with 832, my spider wire 20 lb or 30 lb never dug in. Maybe next year if i stick with the 832 i will spool up all spinning with 40# 832.

How do you get dig in on spinning ? I've never heard of that.

ive not had it on spinning but on a baitcaster the solution is a looong cast every now and then and put a little tension on it.  That hardens up the line base so the looser stuff later doesn’t dig as bad

I've never had it dig on spinning . A spinning reel winds it in such a manner that it's nearly impossible. I've reeled against the drag on spinning with 10 lb braid and no problem.

Make sure to put the braid tight on the reel and you should not have braid dig in your spool.

Daiwa makes bait casters named "PE Special". Some have faster than usual level winds which lay line in somewhat of a criss-cross pattern. Basically they're built to avoid friction and dig in by line being neatly stacked side by side.

Agreed, especially with light plastics. Not too much of a difference between 30 and 50 regarding distance with a heavy casting jig, crank, and especially a lipless, but 40 and 50 choke off distance too much with baits weighted like 5" senkos and a bit lighter.
