CC268 Posted May 22, 2022 Posted May 22, 2022 I just got a new Shimano Curado 6'10" Medium rod for jerkbaits (recommended by Tactical Bassin for budget rods) and I am pairing it up with a Shimano SLX XT (7.2:1 ratio) reel. I've been searching old threads on which line to use for jerkbaits and I'm a bit torn. For now I will be fishing Megasbass Vision 110 Jr +1s. Flouro seems like the answer if you are ONLY going to use this setup for jerkbaits (again Tactical Bassin recommends 12lb flouro). That said, it is always nice when I can use a rod/reel for more than one lure/presentation. I'm wondering if I go with mono, maybe it would be more versatile? What do you guys think? Thanks! Quote
Super User ATA Posted May 22, 2022 Super User Posted May 22, 2022 10lb Fluorocarbon, Tatsu or InvizX are the best. Quote
Happybeerbuzz Posted May 22, 2022 Posted May 22, 2022 My jerkbait rod doubles for poppers and walking baits so I use 11# or13# mono. Quote

I think you answered your own question. Go with the mono. Quote

Super User FryDog62 Posted May 22, 2022 Super User Posted May 22, 2022 For me, the number one reason to use fluoro is sink rate. IMO, it helps keep the jerkbait at the stated depth range of the lure and in the strike zone longer. 1 Quote
Aaron_H Posted May 22, 2022 Posted May 22, 2022 I would use fluoro between the two. Personally I use braid-to-leader on my Shimano 6'10" Medium jerkbait setup but I recognize that I'm an outlier there. Rod would still be versatile with fluoro, just wouldn't throw topwater with it. Anything mid- or bottom- of the water column would be good to go on it IMO. 1 Quote
