small popper that casts a long way

Duo Realis Popper 64. It's small, cast well on Medium Fast rod, both pops and walks the dog well, and it will catch fish but it's pricey.

If you are walking a small popper, you are barking up the wrong tree...  

I find most "small" poppers cast really well with the right equipment, and distance isn't usually the issue. I like a "mid sized" popper or larger for walking. The small ones are mostly for glass water spitting for me.

I have pretty much given up on the smallest poppers.  I have caught 10x bluegills to bass....and probably 2:1 turtles and snakeheads to bass.  All fun enough, but not what I'm after.

Get a Popmax. You can pop and walk all at once.  For a couple years, it outfished all my other baits combined.

Depending on how much money you want to spend, when you say "heavy" I will list different weights I think are heavy enough to comfortably cast associated to said lure

 

Rebel pop R (1/4)

R2s bubble walker 1/2)

R2s bubble popper (3/8 for small)

Damiki d pop (3/8 but more 1/4ish)

Bps xps popper (1/4 but on scale is .20 or 1/5th)

Yo zuri 3bd/3ds poppers (1/4-3/8th for small and large model)

This is in the center of my wheelhouse. I popper fish more than anything else from April-October. I have found a couple of baits that really stand out for casting distance versus size versus action. 

 

First is the Don Iovino Splash-It Popper in the Standard size. It's 1/4 ounce but casts like a bullet with my setup. I can also walk the dog with it easily. It's a true fish catching machine. 

 

This is my favorite color: bluegill. 

 

Next up is a bit of a hybrid, in that it isn't a popper but still has the same result. It's much easier to walk and it spits beautifully. I use the 77.7 and the 105 size. Both cast way further than you care to fish it back. It's the Evergreen Shower Blows. This bait is truly the best of both worlds, IMO.

Owner Culvita Zip n Ziggy cast and walks good, not a popper.

Iovino Slash-It cast well in 1/4 oz or the larger 3/8 model.

Kind of need parameters on what a "small" popper is. Most of them listed are not what I'd consider small, just standard sized poppers. 

 

The smallest sized Booyah Boss Pop is 1/4oz, so it cast on casting gear no problem, walks and spits very nicely, and gets bit really well.

I could get rid of all my poppers, and catch fish most anywhere, most any time with one small, and one large Boss Pop, not to mention taking all the PopMax lunch $ around...

 The Megabass Pop Max and the Yellow Magic Japanese Popper

are my main players when it comes to poppers; both 1/2 oz.

And I'm that weird guy who throws them on spinning gear.

Casting distance is never a concern however.

I still like the Rapala Skitter Walk and have really gotten away from poppers. Haven't bought any at all really. Still have a box of Rebel Pop'rs.

 

One thing I do find very helpful is to let the lure hang from my rod tip about 15" and on the back cast you really want the lure load up the rod like you would on a back cast of a flyrod. When you cast, you'll see the lure vortex thru the air. Once you see that, you got the long cast licked.

I can't catch fish on a popmax to save my life ? The R2S Bubble Walker kills them, but the Popmax does nothing for some reason.

I doubt there's much difference in casting distance across all poppers besides weight and whether there's a feathered hook. They're all aerodynamic.

You know you would think this-but my experience has been different. I fish 1\4oz poppers alot and noticed the small booyah boss pop outcasts a rebel pop r of the same size. By a decent distance to.

Get yourself an Evergreen Shower Blows 77.7 and you have one of the best walking baits made as well as a very good popper...
