Hey all. Been doing a lot of window shopping lately and trying to decide what I want to do as far as my next rod/reel purchase.

Current setups:

BPS Tourney Qualifier 2 MH/XF with matching reel, 50lb braid.

Abu Garcia Vendetta M/F with Shimano SLX, 14lb mono

St Croix Triumph MH/F with Shimano Cardiff 300a, 17 lb Sufix Siege

Abu Garcia Vendetta ML/F with Johnny Morris Carbonlite 2.0 1000 size, 10 lb Sufix braid

I have been looking at different options, and originally considered getting a Dobyns Fury

7’3” MH/F and a Daiwa Tatula. Would it be better to buy a new combo or to just upgrade to a “higher end” rod with the reels I have.

I primarily pond fish, so I can only use crank baits a handful of times a year when the grass isn’t overrun so I don’t really have a use for a crankbait rod. I figured the Fury/Tatula combo would become my “all around” combo and I would use the BPS combo almost exclusively for topwater.

Any thoughts, suggestions, and input are welcomed and appreciated!

How many rods do you usually take with you?

If you don't already take all your rigs when you go out, adding another one isn't super beneficial. In this case, an upgrade would make more sense.

If you are carrying everything with you, having another setup already rigged and ready for a different presentation is always nice.

A Fury/Tatula would make a pretty nice all round combo. Although one thing I’ve learned is the bait monkey is gonna get to you and you are gonna end up wanting higher and higher end stuff. Better to save money in the long run and just get higher end stuff now lol. For the price of that combo you could get yourself a Champion XP or a Shimano Expride and have a tournament grade stick that will make a great all round rod. I’d recommend a 7’2” MH Expride or a Champion XP 734 and just put the SLX on it. That would make a great all around combo

I am a bank bound angler, and I usually take my spinning rod, medium baitcaster and mh baitcaster to walk around ponds with.

you'd be hard pressed to find better casting reliability with a wide range of weights than Daiwa SV

adding a ps - set the mag adjustment to prevent wind backlash with the lightest thing you're going to throw, and you're done.

Save your money to put towards a small boat to get you off the bank. That will do more for you than swapping out your equipment. What you have isn’t high end, but certainly not junk either. Keep your reels serviced lubricated they’ll do all you need. If anything equipment wise now, sell a casting rod and replace it with a M or MH mod for treble hook lures.

My biggest issue right now with getting a boat is storage. I don’t have the place for a boat. I have considered a kayak, but I will probably wait until wife and I upgrade to an SUV because we both have 4 door cars at the moment.

That will give you time to save up for that kayak, but cars are very capable of moving a kayak on the roof provided that you have a good rack. I have moved mine on my VW GTI. the truck was at the dealership and that was not going to ruin my weekend.
