I wanted to know if i should spend my money on a ugly stik combo. I'm looking for a good cheap ultralght.

Ugly stik rods are not all that bad. Good for catfishing and I’m sure great for ultralights too. But the reel that comes on those combos are junk. You can spend a little more and buy a cheap reel like the Shimano 1000xr. I used to see them a lot around here, not sure if you can find it where you live. For the price those were great.

I got two of them ($39 each), I bought them because I start float tubing and I dont want to send my conquests down the lake LOL.

They are very nice for the price, I spooled one of them with 6lb and another one 8lb.

Buy it, the worth the $40 for rod and reel combo.

I agree, you can use them till they are damage and replace them. Also the reels are heavy.

Ugly Stiks are great rods for the price. I used one until my car door thought it looked tasty and took a bite.

In my opinion, they’re pretty whippy but they’re great for just starting out.

The rods are okay for the price but the reels are complete garbage and should be replaced yesterday.

You also could probably get a Lews Laser rod and a Pfluger Trion at certain Walmarts for the same price and better quality.

I wouldn't buy one for an UL. Nothing against Ugly Sticks, but I'd want something more sensitive for an UL rod.

I still use my ugly sticks all the time and leave it in my truck all summer for trips before or after work. I use it for river smallies and it has numerous trophy smallies on it and up until last fall my personal best smallie. On lakes I do find the Medium ugly spin pairs well with small jerkbaits and spy baits.

I am a fan even though I own and regularly use mid to upper mid range gear as well.

If they are the black, heavy, slow-actioned Ugly Sticks, no.  But are there not newer more sensitive, lighter Ugly Sticks that aren't that bad?  I'm not sure.

I'd take a look at the Bass Pro/Cabelas offerings for combos with the action/power that you prefer before committing.

Their rods are amazing and the Gx2 is almost indestructible. The reels suck though in my experience.
