Super User J Francho Posted May 26, 2022 Super User Posted May 26, 2022 It's not really a stretch. They were all decent fish that completely ate it. It's the little doinkers that ruin the baits. Smallmouth are ruiners too. 1 1 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted May 26, 2022 Super User Posted May 26, 2022 Yeah, just some Yammi stick poking - lol. The little smallmouth head shakers are a killer with it. I stopped buying them after a couple of those river smallie trips about 20 years ago where you go through 2-3 bags a tourney. Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted May 28, 2022 Super User Posted May 28, 2022 In my week of fishing on St Clair, I filled the cup holder with an assortment of plastics that I used for Ned, dropshotting, Senkos and I only replenished it twice with partial color changes all week. Quote
The Bassman Posted May 28, 2022 Posted May 28, 2022 This thread reminded me that I need to super glue a Missle 48 that's starting to tear after a dozen or so bass from this afternoon. Shrink wrap really helps when wacky worming. I try to set baits aside before they go flying into the water. Better yet, I mostly use elaztech. I just happen to have a lot of plastisol baits laying around. Quote
rtwvumtneer6 Posted May 28, 2022 Posted May 28, 2022 If I have a creature style bait, I replace it as soon as I lose a kicker. I know there are a lot of one clawed craws, but personally I can't stand it. Fun fishing, I'll make a plastic last until it no longer sits on the hook right, or it looks like it's to tear up completely. In a tournament situation it's every fish, or when the hook point becomes exposed and starts snagging vegetation. The exception is during a really hot bite. I'll give a quick visual and if it seems ok it's right back in. Quote
QED Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 I buy empirically proven soft baits in bulk so I never worry about trying to "stretch" the useful life of soft baits. Life is too short to introduce additional, self-inflicted variables. Quote
KP Duty Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 I definitely stretch them these days. Back when all the tackle shops had an abundance of clearance soft baits....not so much. Quote
