Hulkster Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 I use suffix Siege on all my setups both spinning and casting. its the best mono I have ever used. I use 10 on regular spinning gear and 12 on baitcasting gear. Quote
newapti5 Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 I'd add P-Line Floroclear to the list. It's very supple and manageable, strong, cast great, and quite affordable. Quote

Bass Rutten Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 I’m surprised yo zuri hybrid hasn’t been mentioned, super low stretch, very manageable, low price point, was a long time cxx user until this year, not looking back. Quote

Lead Head Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 P-line floroclear... YIKES!!! If you like manageable, great casting co-poly that stretches more than BG, randomly fails at the knot, and occasionally comes in whole spools that fail on every hookset regardless of knot... give it a shot. If you're lucky, it can be pretty good. If you're not so lucky, it can be really bad. This was my experience with floroclear over a 5 year period including about 20 spools of line (3 of them were completely faulty throughout). I didn't realize all my problems weren't normal until I started using different lines. A few people suggest it from time to time, they have obviously had a different experience than I had. I'm not trying to discredit anyone, their experience, or their opinion. I just have a hard time not sharing my experience when I see this line mentioned. Give it a shot, you may like it, it really does handle well. Quote

Lots of memory too, and only SLIGHTLY less stretch than XT. XT is also more abrasion resistant, has less memory, and is available everywhere at a good price. Quote

The stretch is far less and it has almost no memory..Xt feels like a rubber and in comparison. Quote

Super User TOXIC Posted May 15, 2022 Super User Posted May 15, 2022 Honestly? I use Bass Pro Excel mono. Why? Because it’s mono and it’s reasonably priced. Last time I checked, Johnny Morris hasn’t bought a fishing line manufacturing plant so one of the name brands already listed makes it for and then packages it for Bass Pro. Do I know which one? Nope. Nor do I care. It’s mono and it performs well. Just spooled up 6lb for Ned rig and 8lb for dropshot for my trip to St Clair next week. 1 Quote
Eric 26 Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 I’m going to add I use and enjoy Kastking monofilament. I’ve only used the 4lb but it’s limp, holds a knot very well and although I haven’t brought in any monster Bass it has handled the dinks and bluegills very well. Quote

DinkDreams Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 I really like Trilene XT, I use 14# on my baitcasting reels. Also like Sufix Siege 17# for my bigger swimbait rod (up to 3oz baits). I have never had luck with Stren Original. 2 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 18, 2022 Super User Posted May 18, 2022 15 lb Big Game for moving baits around 1/2 oz and over. 10 lb Big Game for smaller moving baits. 1 Quote

Put 10# on a baitcaster for small-medium crankbaits and love it. So much so that I spooled another baitcaster with it. But I also bought 8# and put it on a spinning reel for throwing wacky-rigged senkos. It was jumping off the spool and I cut it all off after one frustrating outing. Made no sense to me, but that was my experience. Quote

Super User TOXIC Posted May 28, 2022 Super User Posted May 28, 2022 After singing the praises of mono on this thread,I got my first bad spool of 8lb BPS Excel. It must of aged out because it has been spooled on more than one occasion and I haven’t had a problem. Respooled my dropshot rig with it before my trip to Michigan and broke off 3 smallmouth before I figured out what the issue was. Quote
Dinger0306 Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 For casting reels, there's really not much reason to look beyond Berkley Big Game. Yes, it's stretchy but you're asking for that with mono. Yes it has line memory but that's not an issue on casting gear. But it's tough and cheap. I actually prefer clear/blue florescent line for line watching fishing plastics. So I'll use Stren in clear/blue florescent often, but if you're fine with clear or green line Big Game all the way. Quote
garroyo130 Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 Anyone here tried the Varivas Very Low Stretch nylon? Labeled as trout line but on the panfish forum many people sing its praises and tout it as a lower stretch alternative to fluoro. https://www.varivas.fishing/products/super-trout-advance-twitch-master-vls/ Quote
