Bringing 3 rods on an upcoming fishing trip…

- Daiwa zillion/Dobyns Xtasy w/tatsu fluoro

- Shimano Sustain/okuma psycho stick w/30lb FINS wind tamer black braided line

- Daiwa Tatula Elite/Dobyns champion extreme HP with ????? Mono

Need suggestions on mono - I can always go with my go to Pline CXX in green, but curious as to what others like - The mono setup will be used for top water/spinnerbait/chatterbait/squarebill/etc and also as kind of a do it all combo …..I hear sunline supernatural come up a lot…also sunline defier armilo, McCoy mean green, Berkley big game etc…any suggestions are appreciated (and why you like that particular line)…thanks in advance all!

Sunline Defier Armilo comes highly recommended from a lot of people here, never used it myself. I like Sufix Siege and Trilene XT. The good thing about XT is that it’s pretty cheap and comes in 1400 yd spools so I respool pretty often, and it doesn’t cost much.

Sufix Advance mono. Lowest stretch best mono ever made.

One of the few monos I've actually taken off a reel because of it's fluoro like fragility.

What lures are you planning to use on the HP?

Another vote for Sunline Defier Armilo ~

Was recommended by @WRB

It is my choice for topwater & fluke fishing mono line south of the border.

I use the 22 lb in open water and 25 lb in the bushes.

Best Bass on this trip for me

Squarebills, spinnerbaits, topwater, maybe chatterbaits - will be sort of a utility/do it all combo

Sunline Defier Armillo Nylon is a good choice, 19/ .014D or 22/..015D  for the lures mentioned.

I had the same experience, with their 17lb. test.

This gets my vote as well. Awesome line. I use it for topwaters in 15 and 20lb test.

They don't grow that big here in Michigan, A-Jay! If they did, then I'd spring for a premium line ?

I dunno if I got a bad spool or what - but while most people say it's fairly limp, the 10# I tried on my jerkbait rig was very 'wiry' and even KVD didn't help much.

Went back to my tried-and-true Elite.

I use four monofilaments:

Trilene big game:  I use 20lb exclusively for catfishing, 10lb for light duty bassing, and 8lb for finesse bassing on a spinning combo.  Not currently rigged on any of my spinning combos though.

Trilene Sensation: 12lb on a "general" baitcast setup (m/f veritas pls/Revo S), and 6lb on a medium veritas plx/maxpro 20 spinning setup for ultra-finesse.

P-Line CX: 6lb moss green on a Pfleuger Trion combo for panfishing.

Suffix Tritanium: 10lb dark green on a Shimano symetre spinning combo for general-purpose fishing.

My favorites are (in order):. Trilene big game, p-line cx, trilene sensation.

I’m in the suffix advance camp also, liked it enough in 10 lb to buy a 1200 yard spool. Trying out big game monofilament and like it so far and definitely enjoyed McCoy mean green for years. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the lines mentioned.

Sunline Defier Shooter casts better than Armillo which will coil up on you but has better abrasion resistance. Shooter is the best copoly/mono out there IMO if cost and availability are not an issue.

McCoys and Gamma copoly are about as good as the Sunline.

Lots of good mono lines.  Don't be afraid to add co-polymers to you choice.  Look at line diameters (as WRB alluded to).  It might say 12# on the package, but the diameter says you are getting a 14# line.

I like Siege.  Especially in the Neon Tangerine as it is so much easier on these old eyes to see.  I also use a lot of Big Game and AN40 (isn't being made anymore, but still can find some).  Trying Mean Green and XXX.

I didn't have much luck with P-Line.  Floroclear (10#) broke way too easy.  CX broke down in the spool, but that may have been my fault.  It was the line I used while learning to cast a baitcast reel so backlashes may have been responsible for the break.  It did handle very well.

Berkley Big Game is my go to mono. I use #10 most of the time.

I also like Vicious Fishing Ultimate Mono. Smaller line diameter than most mono for the #test rating. It has not let me down yet.

idk i got some mccoy this year and used it on a a 72 medium heavy expride. i have sniper on an identical outfit and fishing them both side by side i cant tell any differences between the 2 in sensitivity, stretch, number of bites etc. maybe my fishing skills just arent advanced enough to see the benefits of fluoro idk. but i get the feeling that the whole fluoro thing is more talk than actual truth, and while i dont mind paying for something thats really better im not sure it is.

12# and 15#. I don’t know about y’all, but my line gets scratched up here and there, even if it’s been big game. I’ll cut off portions if there’s enough to make me uncomfortable. Or it’ll get a little shorter when I tie on lures. And I don’t like having a half-full spool. That’s maddening. So I go through line fairly quickly. Big game is inexpensive, strong as heck, abrasion resistant, deals very well with shock, casts decently well, and, yes, as @Deleted account mentioned, it is also currently curing cancer.
