PondHoppinPete Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 My first rod I bought a couple of months ago was a 6'6 Medium action Ugly Stix Gx2. It has a fiber glass tip that's about 5-6 inches and due to an accident, only about 2 inches of the fiber glass tip is left. I haven't used it since but figured eventually I could find a purpose for it. Any suggestions? The action is Medium but being an Ugly Stix, its not that sensitive to begin with. Now I imagine its going to be even less so if I the next rod guide as the tip. Someone suggested using it as cat fishing rod but I currently don't fish for catfish. Any lures you would use on what I now imagine to be a medium-heavy rod for bass fishing? Currently I fish weightless senkos, T rigged creatures, wacky rig, and some top waters. But would accept any excuse to try out new lures with my "new" rod Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted May 12, 2022 Super User Posted May 12, 2022 Once repaired, (take off the top guide and replace the tip) other than bait fishing as suggested, I'd use that for a plopper 75 with braid and short heavy mono leader, or tomato sticks. 1 Quote
Big Rick Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 Tie a fly swatter to the end of it and reach those pesky bugs on the ceiling... 1 Quote
NavyToad Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 They work well for attaching cat toys to the end using 20# mono. Cats love ‘em. 1 Quote

Chris186 Posted May 13, 2022 Posted May 13, 2022 My grandfather used to take broken rods and stick them in the ground in the garden to tie vegetable plants to as they grew Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted May 13, 2022 Super User Posted May 13, 2022 - use with (or diy new) lure retriever - as mentioned above, put new tip, or cut to next eye and see what it works for. I had a 7'MHF rod that is now an excellent 6'10" HF frog rod. - attach microfiber cleaning cloth and dust ceiling corners and ceiling fans - beat rugs on clothesline - tomato stakes - diy kayak safety flag 1 Quote
QED Posted May 13, 2022 Posted May 13, 2022 As you can see from some of the snarky responses, there isn’t a good option. For high end rods you might want to reuse the handle if possible, but otherwise just toss it. 1 Quote
newapti5 Posted May 13, 2022 Posted May 13, 2022 This is my line winder / back scratcher. It's ready handy when you're putting on new line on reels or having an itch on the back. Quote

Ploppers don’t need action and just need to cast an incredibly easy to cast lure a long way. A 110 plopper will go a mile on any rod. It makes the rod a specialist, but I can work with that. 1 Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted May 14, 2022 Super User Posted May 14, 2022 Put an old reel on it after cutting it down and use that for your plug knocker rig: Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted May 14, 2022 Super User Posted May 14, 2022 Just put a broken reel on it. Duh. 1 Quote
Randy Price Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 If the rods are not too badly damaged I repair them and buy an inexpensive reel put it on and give them to poor kids. 1 Quote
