Going to order one this week.  Does any one that has one regret getting one for what they paid? Or did anyone look into them and not pull the trigger because of the price?

If you get a power-pole you will find that the different ways you are able to use it in are endless. Its not just a bed fishing thing like a lot of guys think. It can and will be utilized anytime your in shallow water. I fish in shallow water a lot and use it every time I go out. It allows me to slow down and cover the water effectively. It will hold you in place in wind and current no problem. There is a learning curve with the power-pole but once you get accustomed to it you will be able to use it with out thinking. They are pricey no doubt but they are built to last a long time. If you pm me I can show you the place I ordered mine from and maybe save you some money.

I've really wanted one since I found out about them.  It isn't so much about what they cost - things cost what they cost.  It is just that I haven't had the spare money to buy that toy.

Guys that have them swear by them.  After spending a couple of thousand dollars, some might be reluctant to say they aren't worth it.

If you have use for them in a good percent of your fishing, I'd say they are worth it.  But, if I had the extra thou or two to toss around I'd opt for the MinnKota GPS Pilot (I think) trolling motor.

It will hold itself in a precise position.  I say itself, because it can stay in one place while the boat pivots around it.  But, to accomodate that, you'd just have to cast in the same compass direction to fish the same patch of bottom.

But, the tm can be programmed to follow a particular course, be it along the shore or the edge of a shoal or weed bed in any depth of water.

I think the power poles make a bass boat look like a grass hopper.  But, effectiveness trumps appearance.

Thanks for the info guys.  I thought about it and with how I like to do a majority of my fishing I think it would be great.  Couldn't tell you how many times the wind blew me into a lay down before I could fish it properly.  I ordered one this morning, should be installed in a couple weeks.

I have the Minn Kota Terrova with the i-Pilot.  It does everything the Power Pole will do, plus a LOT more.  The i-Pilot will hold my boat to within a five foot radius, regardless of the depth of the water.  It's the greatest thing since the invention of sliced bread.

I'm sure both have their place.  I'm more worried about shallow stealthy fishing.  My thinking is that the power pole is better for what I want in shallow water.  The I pilot would be great for deeper fishing to stay on a way point. What is cost of I pilot? Is it the whole trolling motor, or is it an after market attachment?

When they make one that will touch bottom in 30 feet, I may think about buying one.

Likewise, we don't have enough shallow water here to make owning one worth the huge expense.

It's an aftermarket attachment, provided you have the right motor.  Don't remember the price of the iPilot, but the 80# Terrova with the iPilot set me back about $1500.

Depending on your fishing style the Power Pole is the best invention since Skeeter built the first bass boat. I love mine and will never go without one. The trolling motor has it's place but if you keep it on you will spook fish in less than 8 feet of water. Suggest you work with the installer for location of your hydralic pump. Many are not very innovative and they like to just put it in your dry storage areas. I had one installer take my dry storage tray out and mount it behind my driver's seat. Didn't take up any space. On my present boat they were able to install it on the bracket supporting my transom. Let me know if you have any questions and enjoy your Power Pole!

IMO, it the best decision I made, can't tell you how many times I have used it to hold my place while the wind blew everyone else past me.  I'm in Florida so most of the time I can hit bottom with my Powerpole XL.  If I were up North fishing deeper waters where deeper techniques are the key, a Sidefinder depth sounder/GPS would be 1st on my list.
