Thanks for having me! I’ve been fishing (mostly saltwater) for 10+ years now but just caught the bass bug a few months ago because of how much fun I had using a $50 baitcaster from Dick’s. Now, I’m looking to purchase my first higher end rig and was hoping to get some advice in this forum. My budget is ~400 for rod and reel. Most of the use will be for shore fishing ponds/lakes in Central Florida. Im pretty set on the 21 Scorpian DC for reel due to its forgiveness but certainly open to suggestions. For rods I’ve mostly been considering the Megabass Levante and Shimano Zodias. I’m very open to purchasing JDM but its pretty confusing with Shimano rods. I appreciate any advice!

Welcome aboard James. I’m a big St. Croix guy but the rods you mentioned are good. If your only going to get one set up I would go with a 6’11” to a 7’1” med.heavy since your in Florida. I would go to a store and see what one feels good to you.

Welcome to the forum James1. I fish several Zodias rods and they're good. But I wouldn't hesitate to go with the Levante from trusted reports.

Welcome!

I'm a big fan of Shimano reels.  IMO you can't go wrong.  As far as rods, I have a mix and match, and it's a work in progress!

Welcome to BR.

Before you pull the trigger on a Zodias, take a look at the Shimano Exprides.

Of course, you might only be able to look. They are in short supply right now. But they are worth the wait.
