Lews rods and reel?

Looking into these more and more.Whats your opinion on quality of this manufacturer as the price seems right.

Lew's reels are manufactured by various companies, but the majority of their reels are made by a South Korean engineering company called Doyo. They have multiple factories across South Korea and China, where most of the reels are manufactured and assembled.

They are a brand name that uses other people's stuff but the stuff they use is pretty good and they are better than others playing the same game imo.

I personally love Lews products for their price points. I own Metaniums, Bantams, new Zillions, and I still think the best value reel in my lineup is the Lews Hypermag. The LFS for $80 (which you can find all day) is an absurdly capable reel. 
 

Yes their made in the same factories as Abu, and other brands. I own some Abu reels and like them, but I prefer Lews. 
 

There are some reels I won’t really get behind. The TI is too high priced for what you get, and the plastic framed reels over $100 are a non starter. 
 

The LFS, Tourney MP, and Hypermag are superstars in my mind. 
 

Daiwa and Shimano just have a more even field imo. They don’t make bad reels in my mind. Everything from an SLX to a Met is well built and performs as expected. Getting a discount is more difficult and their warranty is so-so. Daiwa just makes some of the easiest to setup and go reels I’ve ever used. They also haven’t had issues when I needed warranty work. 
 

I don’t think you can go bad with any major manufacturers now days. Ive never tried a Quanum or Kastking reel but I bet they function just fine.

I have a couple of Speed Spool LFS and Speed Spins and a few of their Custom rods.

They all perform very well coming from a guy who loves Shimano

I have a new BB1 and so far it's been pretty good. My only gripe is that the breaking is sporadic at any setting. I definitely need to keep my thumb at the ready. Also the drag slips a little and is not as smooth as I would like it but it's not a huge deal. Now, outside of this reel I have not been the biggest fan of Lews reels. On the plus side, up until lately,  their service has been stellar.  If you search about Lews reels on this site and others,  you will see the recent complaints about parts and warranty.  Hopefully things will return to normal for them one day.  

 

My one thing with Lews as a whole is that they mark up their reels and then discount them. Many companies (Kohls, JCPennys, etc) follow the "Mark it up, so it can appear to be on sale" philosophy.  It's just not how I operate.

I’m happy with all my Lews reels. Team Lews Lite X2, BB1 Pro, Tournament Pro - All great reels and I’m just as happy using any one of them. I’d give the edge to the Tournament Pro, but there’s really not much difference to me. I have a couple Tatulas that I like just as well as Lews. You can’t go wrong with Lews IMO. I don’t think I’ve ever paid MSRP for ANY reel - the selection of quality reels  in the $150-$200 range is mind boggling - I keep it simple with Lews and Daiwa.

Great reels, I have only fished a few of their rods. I have a few of the custom pro rods, an older tp1 cranking stick, and a tp1 black. I've had a blast with them and caught hundreds of bass with no problems. I could also care less where they are made, its not like manufacturing is ever coming back to the US.

Don’t sleep on their rods. The TP1 Black is a great rod.

 

I have lots of Lew’s reels. Some of my favorites are the LFS, LFS inshore, Tournament MB and of course my ProTI. I would stay away from the Mach Series, I have versions I, II and Crush. They are overpriced for what you get.

Lew's has a ton of rod and reel lines.  The TP-1 Black gets great reviews.  Love to try one, but already have too many rods. 

 

The Tournament Pro LFS gets great reviews.  Haven't been out with mine yet. 

 

I always tell people to buy what interests them the most as I think they will be happier going that route...usually.

Never used their rods, never cared to with so many good options out there. I’m sure they are  nice rods though. Their reels on the other hand I love. The 99 dollar LFS is a bargain and the 179 dollar Custom SLP is a very very good reel. Aren’t quite up there with Daiwa/Shimano but they are firmly in 3rd and the gap isn’t that large.

The tp1 black is a fantastic rod. My favorite at the price point by far. I love the lfs. At its price point I prefer it over the slx. I think the best lews value is the tournament mp. At 150ish it’s a great reel.

This x2! I have the Crush as well and it’s my most recent lews purchase. Hands down the hardest to dial in reel I have ever owned. I bought the combo at $200 and the rod just feels cheap as well as the reel. 

I also own a tournament SLP from bass pro and it’s a great reel but the side plate won’t fully seat into place. It leaves a small gap between the plate and the frame and although it doesn’t seem to effect the performance, it really annoys me.

Daiwa is by far my favorite if for no other reason than it has been amazing straight out of the box. Easy to dial in and it casts a country mile in comparison to my Abu and lews. I would recommend the Tatula 100 which is what I have.
