Alex from GA Posted May 9, 2022 Posted May 9, 2022 I just read an article about Butch Brown on the front page of the Los Angeles Times. It outlined how he goes about catching DD bass. 7 Quote

Super User WRB Posted May 9, 2022 Super User Posted May 9, 2022 I believe Big Hands and I stopped to chat with Butch the morning this article was written with a film crew behind him. Hadn’t talked to Butch since my son passed and knew him since he was you young teen. Butch is similar to Bill Murphy in the details and focus they have regarding giant bass. Giant bass require dedication and total focus to catch consistently. Thank you for sharing the LA Times article, well deserved. Tom 1 Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted May 9, 2022 Super User Posted May 9, 2022 Cool read on yahoo about Butch. https://www.yahoo.com/news/column-one-meet-goat-bass-120030353.html 1 Quote
Big Hands Posted May 10, 2022 Posted May 10, 2022 If you don't see Butch first in line, he isn't going to be anywhere in the line, LOL. His little black boat is even smaller than it looks and pretty narrow. Very stealthy and all business. His knowledge of the lagoon is unparalleled. What I admire about him the most is his dedication to catching big bass. He has times when he isn't catching much, or even any, but he keeps at it until he breaks down the code, and then he hammers them. He's good people for sure. I am definitely not a subscriber to the Times, but the article popped up on my feed and I didn't need to subscribe. I read an article from them occasionally, and it will usually tell me that I have 'x' number of free articles left for the month, and then let's me read what I clicked on. If you're not able to read it, PM me and I'll send you 'something'. 1 Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted May 10, 2022 Super User Posted May 10, 2022 Good article. I never realized he has caught that many. He had 5 fish over 12 lbs one day. Quote

I use to rib him about being a drywall contractor, as I was a general contractor, he didn't like that too much, so I stopped. One day on the lagoon I was with a friend who use to guide on Isabella, Butch of course was out there, doing his thing, we crossed paths, Butch said he had not even got a nibble, which really surprised us, he then said he resorted to using (cough) live bait that he caught. Even with the live bait, Nada. Was a tough day, as no one caught anything. Still was a nice late spring day, and learned a couple of things that Butch mentioned. 1 Quote
