Hawgsnatcher Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 Hi all, I have a diawa tatula ct 100xs. When I set the hook the reel handle slips backwards. I have no idea why it’s doing this and I just payed a bunch of money for diawa to service it. Any ideas as to what the problem is? I feel like it’s something with the drag. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted May 8, 2022 Super User Posted May 8, 2022 Could be a lot of things but this is my guess..... AR bearing. They don't go out often but usually happens from not being cleaned and oiled or using braid while trying to winch out a snag. The other possibility could be from being over greased instead of oiled but this would be rare. 3 Quote
garroyo130 Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 Anti reverse is bad or overgreased. Pull the AR inner sleeve and wipe that down with alcohol and reinstall. Usually thats enough unless it was really really overgreased in which case you may have to clean the individual rollers on the AR. 2 Quote
Yuddzy Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 +1 To what everyone else already said here. If the handle is slipping backwards, it likely has to do with the Anti-Reverse. If it was a drag issue, you'd just have very little force required to activate drag, but the handle would not spin backwards. 1 Quote
Hawgsnatcher Posted May 8, 2022 Author Posted May 8, 2022 So would this mean I have to replace the ar bearing or just wipe it down? Quote

newapti5 Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 Could be many things; hard to say without detailed descriptions. You could just send it to the sponsor of this subforum - DVT. Quote

Hawgsnatcher Posted May 9, 2022 Author Posted May 9, 2022 So I tore into it, and it was very very overgreased. I swabbed all of it off but am still confused on which bearing I should really be cleaning well? Is it the bearing that sits in the handle side plate? Quote

Sometimes you can push them out but for your purpose don’t bother. Remove the side plate and spray the AR full of Simple Green etc, and swab it clean. Rinse with hot water. Shake out excess and sit out to dry. Put light oil on a swab and lightly coat the bearing and sleeve. Reassemble and you should be good. 1 Quote

When you remove the handle/washers/drag clicker, the first bearing you'll encounter found sitting in the sideplate on the outside is the second crank bearing. That's not the bearing causing your issue. You'll need to remove the side plate completely to access the bearing that's causing the problem from the inside. Once you remove the side plate, flip it, and view the AR bearing set into the sidplate. You don't need to remove it. You can clean it as described by DVT, or you can spray it out with a quality plastics safe electronics cleaner like CRC Lectra-Motive or Paslode Degreaser, if you have some. It dries in a few minutes through evaporation. A shot of compressed air will speed that up. Clean off the AR sleeve. Spray the bearing thoroughly, insert the AR sleeve, rotate it a 1/4 turn, remove it, spray again, then repeat twice. Once it dries put a nice drop of light oil on a cotton swap, spin it between two fingers to tamp down any stray light fibers, then run it over the bearing to lightly coat the needles. Reassemble. 1 Quote

Not to mention a lot of anti-reverse bearings have a plastic cage that could be damaged by harsher chemicals. I like sticking with things like Simple Green for that, as DVT suggested. Quote
garroyo130 Posted May 13, 2022 Posted May 13, 2022 MAF sensor cleaner or alcohol here. Ive heard simple green needs to be completely rinsed or it can etch metal. Quote
