I just started using Bait Fuel and it really works. I was always a JJ's Magic guy but the opportunity to mess up your boat or your clothes always made me leery to use it.

Still using baitmate classic as I have for over 35 years.

Bait fuel does have my interest though.

they claim it's the first bait scent that was actually scientifically created/studied in a laboratory where the chronicled the fishes reactions to it. I think I might check that out myself.

I guess "they" have never heard of Power Bait by Berkley...

I've heard fantastic reviews about this new stuff from American Baitworks called Baitfuel. They say it's odorless to humans so doesn't stink enough to make you gag like some of the others and they claim it's the first bait scent that was actually scientifically created/studied in a laboratory where the chronicled the fishes reactions to it. I think I might check that out myself.

What they meant was it was the first that was not tested in house. True or not, I don’t know. BaitFuel was tested at Queens University in Kingston, ON by researchers who were not affiliated with American baitworks.

Just started using Bait Fuel in the last month.  I have noticed bass seems to thump my plastics some harder.  One of the lakes I fish, historically the bass tend to lightly pick up the bait a swim off with it….hard to detect for sure in years past during pre-spawn.

In the last few outings, after soaking my plastics in Bait Fuel…..they seem to be hitting the plastic some harder.

I have several different scents that I sometimes use but I always carry a bottle of scent free soap to wash my hands.  I use the same soap I use for hunting as I think human scent along with the different things we touch throughout the day likely has a bigger impact.

+1 on anything that gets rid of your human scent. Studies have been done on how well fish can smell and its amazing how sensitive they are to smells that we don't even notice! Would suggest anglers to look up studies because they list common attractant smells, neutral smells, and negative smells. Sunscreen was listed as a repellent, so try to wash it off your hands after applying it!

I take a tear dropper and put JJ'S Magic clear in each bag of plastics. I rarely take any on the boat. If I dye the tips of baits I do it at home. Thoroughly let them dry and put them back in the bag.

I like megastrike original if I'm  fishing thick grass but the majority of the time it's  JJ'S Magic.

I use all kind of scents, cast the lure out into a pool and never caught a fish ????
Seriously I found my bite rate is about the same using attractant/scent or not. Even most of the scented plastic infused would be gone with in 30 minutes of fishing. I concentrate more on moving the lure than scent.

With that said, I have all kind of scented/attractant, mega strike, pro cure, jelly smelly, jj magic or even spike it pen and just last month bought 100% pure Anise oil to try out ????. I would apply attractant (if not lazy) mostly at night, fish super slow or fishing around moss.

I add a small amount of jelly smelly + Anise oil into a bag of plastic that smell plasticky.

It's funny because I never gave much thought to added scent, but on one TW order earlier this year I added some Mega Strike to my order, tossed it in my kayak crate, then forgot about it for a few weeks.

Then one day I'm out there not having any luck, so I spread some Mega Strike on the big spinnerbait I was using. And on the next cast I landed my first fish of the day. Since then, it's been hit and miss. I generally don't put it on unless I'm having a slow day.

Good point regarding sunscreen.

I always apply it before I leave the house and then wash hands.

Scents for lures? Pfft ?

But if it helps boost your confidence, or you believe they make a positive difference, then go ahead and use ‘em.

I'm going to give Bait Fuel a shot. I've used Bang, but I don't find myself using it a lot.

I only use scent when I'm wearing sunscreen, or dead-sticking something.

Any worries about human scents go away for me after the first catch.  After that, my hands smell like fish all day anyway.

Been told color doesn't matter.

IDK ?

Is it color or scent or both?

All I know is I will be throwing it!

Exactly, and is it because of the “scent” or is it just masking odor.  I think they often make a difference but IMO, it’s probably more as a masking agent.  I’m not a germophobe but if I were able to see what most people do with their hands throughout the day, I would carry hand sanitizer 24/7 ?.

Found out about a month ago Spike It’s head quarters and facilities is ten minutes from my house in a no traffic light town.

No spike it markings, nothing. Crazy.

I started using it a few weeks ago. I have fished it side by side with other scents and without scents and have yet to catch a fish on the any lure treated with Bait Fuel.

Yesterday my son and I fished about a 1/2 mile of shoreline. To continue testing Bait Fuel we both used the same colored Senko wacky style. He used Smelly Jelly on his Senko and I used Bait Fuel. He caught 3 fish and had 2 hits that did not hook up. I did not catch a fish or have a hit.

I think Attractant is misleading Scent is more appropriate for bass fishing. Black fresh water bass have small nostrils for odor detection, it’s not a major prey locator imo.

I use various scents to add onto my soft plastic worms, creatures and jig trailers including pork rind.

Big swimbaits I used Pro Cure Trout.

Pork rind trailers 100% anise w/fresh garlic.

Soft plastics Glycerin oil with 100% anise oil, about 2 drops anise to teas spoon of glycerin oil per worm bag.

I don’t add scent to Berkley Power or Max Scent soft plastics.

Hard baits never use scent.

Over the counter gel scents like Megastrike and Edge Hot Sauce I will use sometimes on unscented soft plastics.

Does scent make a difference...it can and doesn’t hurt.
