How have you been working the speed worm lately? Recently picked a bag in grn pumpkin and Junebug but no bites yet. Do you burn it, slow retrieve, twitch or kill it? And do you do it in open water? For reference, I'm fishing them in ponds in 80-90 degree weather

Its a year round plastic fir me regardless of the water temp, which is the same most times as yours.

The most effective way fir me is swimming with a consistent steady retrieve killing it every 10ft or so in fairly open water over submerged vegetation.

When throwing on top through a pad field, open holes in heavy or moderate vegetation, or over submerged structure I throw weightless.
It’s also my follow up bait of choice when the fish just swipe at a frog without really committing.
The thing about using it as a follow up for a missed frog is I always burn it on top after casting a ways past the miss.
If they don’t hit it when reaching that spot, I’ll bring it past a little bit and kill it then.

If she didn’t leave the area entirely it’ll get crushed so be ready.

I use a 5/0 Trokar TK 120 ewg hook with a 3/16 on 40# braid

A keel weighted screw in hook will work sometimes also but I prefer a nose dive as opposed to a horizontal fall when killing it.

Good Luck

Probably GP SKRT Cut-R.

I'm always amazed at the fluke popularity.   Aside from a couple amazing days, I very rarely have much success with it.

Thanks for the tips Mike! Been trying to figure out what's best with these things, it's easy to second guess yourself and just going back to using lures you're comfortable with

Yes it is..

The more success we have with a particular bait the more we keep coming back to it. No one particular thing is the be all end all for every body of water in every condition.
That’s where discipline and experience should take over.

I use the Magnum 90% of the time and what I posted is what and how I use it, but there are times that down sizing is the best choice.
The standard size Speed Worm and sometimes a Rage Cut R is my choice in post frontal conditions down here.
Then everything changes…line size, hook, weight etc.

Try not to give on it.
I believe in the end, confidence in what you’re throwing at any given time will put more fish in the boat than anything you tie on.

For me, hands down it’s a Zoom Baby Brush Hog.

What kind of situations and retrieved do you like on them?

80% of my catch this year is Fatika, from tiny to 7-8lb bass, catfish and carp as well.

5" Senko Junebug Color(green pumpkin and smoke shad are next).

3/8oz Tungsten Bullet weight.

6 or 8mm Glass red bead.

Anytime anywhere anytime can catch fish for me if any other things cant. I have catch most SMB and LMB in my life with it.

Texas rigged around structure-brush, rocks, trees, weed beds. I have won many tournaments and have caught my biggest fish on them.

How do you even rig and fish those things? They are a bait I want to work so well, but I'm obviously not doing it right.

Most effective all-time ?

1.  Spinnerbaits

2.  Jigs

It is very easy to rig and can be fish anywhere even the nastiest location where other weightless trend to snagged.

I rig it tentacles first and the most effective way are slow drag or lift-drop-soak. The most problem I see when ppl fishing Fatika if moving too much too fast, me included.
This is true story, I recently introduced Fatika to a young friend. He came to fish with me this memorial weekend. The first night he caught a 7lb bass, yesterday he caught another 6 bass in a couple hours.
