I have a good rod for 3/8 football jigs, but when I have a 1/2oz football jig with a trailer, it loses a little of its sensitivity.  So looking for a little stouter rod but with maximum sensitivity.  Would love to hear about the nrx line, but would also like to hear. about steez, megabass...any other high end rods. Thanks

I have the Steez 7'2H power pitch, fortunate to buy it used, on sale, at ALF.  Love it for those weights, super sensitive to me and has an action I prefer for being able to use the rod to shake my way slowly through the weeds.  Small negative, in my hands, it likes a heavier reel, I'm using a Bantam(I know, the humanity).

edit:

I missed the football part, the power pitch is my favorite for grass.  I prefer longer rods for football jigs and would use CNQ 904.

Cool thanks! Yeh I have an xh steez and while it doesn’t have the best sensitivity, it’s a great pitching rod.
I’ve heard the 904 is a good bottom contact rod. it’s a little long for what I prefer.
has anyone tried a 5 power? Eg  895…just wonder if a 5 power would be better for larger jigs…or is 4 enough?

My 904 is my first Gloomis rod, expectations were pretty darn high.  For the most part, they have met or exceeded them, but sensitivity is the one where I probably had over hyped it in my head.  When using my favorite sized weights, I find the Steez AGS my most sensitive, very closely followed by Adrena and Conquest as a tie.  I guess what I'm trying to say is they're all relatively equal and excellent in my hands, but one is quite a bit cheaper.  I've never seen one, let alone fish one, but I've heard there's a big jump between the 4&5 power in Gloomis.

Care to expound?  That's an expensive rod...have you compared it with the nrx?  I haven't heard much about the xtreme rods. thanks for your feedback

A lot of it is going to depend on how the rod feels in your hands.  I have a number of G Loomis rods and also have the Steez Bottom Contact.  Personally, I prefer G Loomis but others may prefer the Steez.  You could buy the NRX 873 CRR and you would have a top notch rod to cover both.  IMO, it’s one of the best G Loomis rods.

Nice!  Yeh, I'm leaning towards the 873c or the 894c.  Any clue how they compare?   I was thinking the 894c but would love a little shorter rod I think...and I've heard great things about the 873c.  I just didn't know if it was stout enough to handle the 1/2jig with a trailer.  I have an x-bites which I will use for finesse -3/8 football jigs. Thanks everyone for your thoughts. Anyone can chime in

I don’t have the 894 but I have the 854.  I do have an 893 that I use for lighter stuff  and it’s a close second favorite but I wouldn’t use it for 1/2oz.  I use the 873 & 854 for a lot of the same things but overall I prefer the 873.

Edit:  IMO, G Loomis underrates their lure weights slightly but they are both rated for 3/4 and can handle 1/2 w/o a trailer easily.  I’m pretty sure Tackle Tour has a review for the 873, I’m not sure about the 854/894.

So if you were going to throw 1/2-3/4 with trailer…which would you get?
anyone else have any thoughts?
anyone have the poison adrenaline 7’4H?   I’ve read  several reviews about the 7’2 and how it’s super sensitive. Obviously it’s prob not on same level as nrx but sounds like pretty close. But not sure about big football jigs. Thanks

I have both but if I had to choose one, it would be the 873.  The 854/894 is H/F v. 873 MH/F (IMO, the 873 is more XF).  I use the 852S for light finesse stuff, the 893C for lighter jigs, and the 854C & 873C for mid range.  I use a Steez for the heavy stuff.  I could easily drop from 5 rods to 3 by using the 873 in place of the 893 & 854.  I have never owned a MB, so I can’t help you there.  However, I have always wanted to try the Addermine but they are tough to find.

Here is a forum comparing the 873 to the 894 for more opinions.

Thank you!  I hate having to make rod selection decisions while out fishing so that’s why I have specific rods for specific techniques. If I had all of your rods, I would go crazy lol so many amazing rods!
thank you for the great response! Have you ever tried any poison adrena rods? for virgin contact? Anyone?

Ugh…just got back from my local tackle store…the only nrx they had was an 854 but while I was in there, he got an 894 in the mail. Offered me a pretty good discount lol…so hold off for the 873? :) tough decisions

Ya know, I’ve found the best feeling reels to be Mets on my Steez BC2 and Heavy Cover special. Don’t feel bad :D

The Adrena is a great rod. I’ve used the 7’2 Heavy for a couple fun fishing outings. My buddy swapped with my St. Croix H and I was super impressed. Light, sensitive and powerful.

Megabass currently does not have a football jig rod. It will come December but that is forever off.

I would suggest buying whatever you want and just use it. Sooner or later you’ll fall in love or sell it. I used to think I had to find “the” rod for whatever techniques, and now they are just sticks. I’ve bought and sold 30+ in the last two years at least.

Cool! Thanks for the advice! Yeh I finally settled on the 873c…just pulled the trigger.  Thank you all for your advice and time!
