MJack Posted May 7, 2022 Posted May 7, 2022 I recently starting fishing with sinkerless flukes (plastic jerkbaits). It’s a lot of fun. I’m fishing for bass. I do put on a two-way ball bearing swivel to prevent line twist and for a little weight. Any suggestions on length, power, and action for a spinning rod, and what type and pound of line? Thanks! EWREX Posted May 7, 2022 Posted May 7, 2022 7ft medium action with 8lb test is my go to. i’ll sometimes throw a fluke on casting gear with slightly heavier line in the summer when tossing in thicker cover Quote
DaubsNU1 Posted May 7, 2022 Posted May 7, 2022 6'6" medium spinning rod, with 15lb bright yellow braid to 8lb fluoro. Quote

Super User JustJames Posted May 7, 2022 Super User Posted May 7, 2022 8lb Copolymer or 10lb FC, 6’10 Medium/Fast rod. I prefer fishing fluke with casting gear. I fish Fluke both fast and slow and spinning rig would get windknot fast. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted May 7, 2022 Super User Posted May 7, 2022 I use a 7'0" Medium/Fast rod (Dobyns Fury 703SF) with 8# InvizX line for weightless plastics of all types (flukes, weightless wacky, weightless T-Rigs, etc) Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 7, 2022 Super User Posted May 7, 2022 7' spinning rod, #6 Tatsu. No weight/ no swivel. 1 Quote
Finessegenics Posted May 7, 2022 Posted May 7, 2022 It’s pretty standard but my rig is 7’1 M/F spinning with 15# braid to 8# mono Quote
Super User NHBull Posted May 7, 2022 Super User Posted May 7, 2022 Spinning...braid to Flourocarbon and sometimes add a snap to keep the nose down. Often add a swivel a couple feet up the leader when I want to run it a little deeper. If really serious I add another longer leader to the swivel to run 2 Flukes. Quote
NavyToad Posted May 7, 2022 Posted May 7, 2022 7’ M/H Baitcaster, 15lb mono or 30 braid, no leader. Line depends on which rod I pick up, I pretty much run either 15lb mono or 30lb braid on all my reels regardless what I’m doing. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted May 7, 2022 Global Moderator Posted May 7, 2022 7’2” Phenix M1 casting rod, 12# flouo Mike Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 8, 2022 Super User Posted May 8, 2022 I like a 6’6” mh with 15 lb mono or a 6’6” m rod with 10 lb mono depending on the thickness of the cover. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted May 8, 2022 Super User Posted May 8, 2022 7'1" spinning, with 8 lb mono or fluro, I prefer mono. No hardware, no weight. Quote
waymont Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 Loomis 752c JWR, 20lb braid to 12lb FC leader no swivel. I use a Metanium MGL and can cast better than any spinning set up. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted May 8, 2022 Super User Posted May 8, 2022 I use a 6’2” M/XF Avid casting rod for flukes and love it. I fish flukes pretty fast and it’s got the perfect tip for fast jerks with a quick recovery time. The rod’s got enough power to to fish in spare pad fields and to get a bass out of a weedline. For line I use 30lb braid to 16lb fluoro leader. I use the braid because the way I fish them puts a lot of slack in the reel and it becomes unmanageable quickly when I try straight fluoro . I use the leader due to Pike/Snakehead and because I think having a section of stiff line helps the fluke stop more quickly post twitch. Quote
jdr99a Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 I generally use a 6’8” m/xf st croix bassx and a tatula sv with straight 12lb invisx fluoro. When the summer heats up and the vegetation thickens up I’ll go to 15 lb line. Quote
rangerjockey Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 Anything with enough tip to throw it will work. I like the Z Bone LMH and a Tatula SV Also makes a good floatin' worm set up. Quote

Super User Bird Posted May 9, 2022 Super User Posted May 9, 2022 Ha Ha answers all over the place, why I love fishing. I throw flukes on a 6'8 med with 15# braid and Magnum flukes on a 7'3 heavy with 20# braid. Why ? Not 100% sure but love throwing them and Bass love eating them. Walking them just below the surface works best here. Quote
Super User PhishLI Posted May 9, 2022 Super User Posted May 9, 2022 4" flukes rigged on Owner Twistlock Light 4/0 get thrown on a Tatula XT 7'MF/ Tatula LT3000 CXH 15lb PP SS to a 10lb Seaguar Blue label leader, but I prefer throwing 5" SK Strike King Caffeine Shads or Big Baits 5" jerk Minnows rigged on Owner Twistlock Light 5/0 or 6/0 on casting gear. Away from pad fields, but over grass I'm using a Daiwa Zillion 1000 G/12lb Suffix DNA copoly/Ark Essence 7'6" MHF. Near or through pads at their current level of growth I'm using a 2020 Lew's Tournament Pro LFS/Daiwa 30LB J8/13 Fishing Omen Black 2 7'3" MHF. Quote
