My favorite pond exploded in curly leaf pond weed completely out of the blue. 6 acres totally matted over in the stuff. I've seen this twice before in other ponds, and each time when it died off it also mass killed the fish. Well here we are again, tons of floaters today. Very unfortunate.

I'll say it is!

Is that an invasive weed, or possibly something transplanted from someone's aquarium?

It's invasive. It spreads in the blink of an eye and takes hold very quickly. From what I understand even a fragment of the weed can cause an explosion. It takes chemicals and a lake mower / people taking it all out to deal with the issue. Each time I've experienced its devastation has been sudden and swift.
