Andy Taylor Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 I've been thinking about picking up a 12' or 14' flat jon to use on a couple lakes near me, instead of my larger boat. What would you consider a minimum width floor for a very stable flat jon? My 16' jon's floor is 48" wide and I love it. Would a 42" floor width be wide enough for most people? I've tried a 36" wide floor and I didn't like it at all. Thanks. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted June 4, 2010 Super User Posted June 4, 2010 Get as wide as you can afford and or find. I've got a 36" wide and I can stand in it with no problems. I don't trailer mine and a 36 is easily manageable to pick up and toss in the bed of the truck by myself. That being said, if I had found a wider bottom, I probably would have bought that. Quote
Andy Taylor Posted June 4, 2010 Author Posted June 4, 2010 Thanks. I've been watching Craigslist and they all seem to be the narrower ones. Is there such a thing as a 12' flat jon with a 42" or 48" wide floor? I think I'd rather get a 14' but I'm just curious. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted June 4, 2010 Super User Posted June 4, 2010 I did a Google search for "1242 jon boat" and found this: http://www.alibaba.com/product-free/257683313/12_Jon_Boats_Weldbilt_1242_F.html Try the same with a 1248 jon boat. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted June 5, 2010 Super User Posted June 5, 2010 Following Wayne P's link - I did another search on "Weldbilt" - they make a 1248 ! http://www.s222056501.onlinehome.us/specifications.html Quote

Super User Grey Wolf Posted June 5, 2010 Super User Posted June 5, 2010 Nothing less than 48 " wide for me. Quote
Andy Taylor Posted June 5, 2010 Author Posted June 5, 2010 Nothing less than 48 " wide for me. I agree, but they sure are hard to find. The good thing is I'm not in any hurry. Quote
bassmanET Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 What about a v hull? They usually are wider that a 12' jon boat. I have seen a flat bottom v hull on craig's list. Quote
Andy Taylor Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 I don't want a V-hull. I want to get a 14' flat bottom Jon, with a 48" wide floor. Craigslist is just loaded with V-hulls, but a Jon like I want is very hard to find. Quote
