boilerfishin Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I have a 2008 Stratos 176XT and my depth finder looses its signal at 25 mph. The boat only goes 35 mph. Stratos says I have a problem with the mounting, wiring or other. The boat dealer says I have a boat problem and it can't be fixed. The transducer is mounted thru the hull. My question is if this is something I have to live with and do most boats with thru the hull mounting loose its signal? Thanks for the help!! Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted June 8, 2010 Super User Posted June 8, 2010 It could be the location. Could be how it was mounted and what was use to mount it. If it has air in the material that was used to mount it that could also be a problem. Quote

acar555 Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Add enough water to the bilge to cover the transducer to see if it helps. If it gets better, then the transducer needs to be remounted or replaced. There is air in the epoxy that is causing it to not read. Quote
Todd Driscoll Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 In addition to above, see if your dealer will loan you a spare transducer. Then, put the boat in the water, hook up and hold over side of boat to determine if a unit or a ducer problem. Chances are, it is the ducer, and it could either be weak or improperly mounted. Quote
boilerfishin Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 Thanks for all the input. The transducter has been re-mounted, replaced, and there still is a problem. Stratos is in contact with Humminbird to get help. Sure hope it's not a boat problem, but it's starting to sound like that. They have even tried a brand new unit. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted June 9, 2010 Super User Posted June 9, 2010 What substance is the dealer using to attach the transducer to the hull? Quote
boilerfishin Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 They are using what Humminbird provides with the transducers. Quote
Todd Driscoll Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Again, if you get a spare ducer and hold over side of boat, that should instantly tell you whether it is the ducer mount or the unit causing the problem. Quote
