IneedAnewScreenName-844354 Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 Definitely agree! I fish spillways a-lot and I always watch how high or low the water is. It always has cover (rocks) and I also go down the shore line and cut down some smaller trees to create cover. I very rarely get skunked by having those changing water depth and cover. I am one of those that will throw everything in the tacklebox at them I’ll admit haha but a few techniques that always work for me in that area are jerkbaits, chatter baits, 1/2 jigs, u heads with a fineke worm, and the good ole Texas rig. Super User Deleted account Posted May 6, 2022 Super User Posted May 6, 2022 Most local branch managers won't let me fish in their bank cause they say hooks in the back of the head of folks in line waiting to open an account is bad for business, besides, never seem to catch anything there, now pawn shops and check cashing places, a lot more hooking going on near those... 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 6, 2022 Super User Posted May 6, 2022 I look for vegetation and grass growing out of rip rap. There always seems to be a bass sitting nearby when I find that. Quote
MontclairDave Posted May 7, 2022 Posted May 7, 2022 The smallest size fluke bait, white or green pumpkin, on a 1/0 or 2/0 EWG. Let it fall to bottom like a Senko and if no hit, then work it the usual way you would a soft jerkbait. Killer. Caught a 5 lber along a shoreline dropoff in a golf course pond I was sure only had dinks. Caught another 5 lber, same pond, on an Original chatterbait with a Zako trailer. But Senko by far the most productive bait. Recently hookup ratio improved dramatically with VMC saddle that lets you hook bait cross-wise instead of the hook pointing in same direction as the bait. I usually bring 2-3 poles with me when I shore fish. I bring a swimbait/spinnerbait (chatterbait), wacky rig (senkos), and a crank (Shad rap). This gives me opportunity to cover all types of conditions a bass would be in once I found deep water such as rock rip raft, weeds, brush, etc. I’ll have more lures in my backpack in a tackle box with different lures but those are my lures I’ll pull out first and know I can trigger a strike. Also when bank fishing longer casts really make a difference because you can cast down the bank without spooking the bass your going to be walking up to. Quote
