Super User South FLA Posted June 6, 2010 Super User Posted June 6, 2010 My right brake, turn, and signal light is out on my Ranger and I removed and can't figure out for the life of me how to replace the bulb!!! Its a Trucklite Super 60 model found here: http://www.levineautoparts.com/truck60202r3.html Do I simply dump the entire lamp and order a new one? Its only $8.00, but darn what a waste? Every other trailer light I have only replaced bulbs other than the LEDS. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted June 6, 2010 BassResource.com Administrator Posted June 6, 2010 That's a sealed unit, meaning you replace the whole thing, not just the lamp. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted June 6, 2010 Super User Posted June 6, 2010 Glenn is correct. I like the sealed units. Don't need any tools to replace them, and the rubber "grommet" reduces shock and vibration which are enemies to light filaments. Just push the light housing out. I think it pushes out easier when you push it through. Push on one end, and it should pop out. Install the new grommet if available, and pop the new housing in. While it may not seem like a secure installation, it stays put without a problem. It's much better than fighting with bulb bases that have gotten corroded, or having to daub 'em all with dielectric grease. Use dielectric grease on the plug to prevent corrosion, and to facilitate changing the light unit in the future. You might consider going with the LED units. They cost more, but draw a tiny fraction of the amps of incandescent lamps, and have a much longer life, supposedly. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted June 6, 2010 Super User Posted June 6, 2010 I recently swapped to LED's on my saltwater trailer and am perfectly happy with them. Even cheap LED's today can get you 20k hours before they burn out. Plus if you bounce over rougher roads, they tend to handle the vibration a bit better than the normal incadescent bulbs. Like Rhino said, they do draw significantly less juice. Worth the difference in price, IMO. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted June 8, 2010 Author Super User Posted June 8, 2010 Thanks fellows, Went down to my local trailer parts store, Rayside, and picked up a pair of sealed regular since they did not have LEDs in stock which I would have purchased. Its funny my little jon boat trailer has LED lights all around since it was in rough shape and my nice Ranger trailer still has regular bulbs Quote
