I'm supposed to be able to put 105 yards of 30lb braid on this spool. Spooled it up with some brand new .25mm braid, let all the line out in my back yard and measured. Came up to just about 40 yards. Not uncommon for me to dump the whole spool when casting heavier lures. What am I missing here?

What braid is it?  Maybe it runs a bit big in diameter.

He gave the diameter - .25mm...which is right about standard for most 20# braids (Power Pro: .23mm, Sufix 832: .23mm, Smackdown: .26mm)

105yds of most 30# (.28mm) should get him about 130yds of 20#.

Something's not right if he's only spooling 40yds and it's filled.

Like actual and listed diameter being not being equal.  I've had braids of the same listed diameters from two different brands be considerably different in actual diameter.

Ya - but to go from the stated capacity of 105yds of .28mm to only 40 yds of .25mm- that line would have to be .45mm diameter...80% thicker than stated...that's a huge difference.

I have an HG spooled with 20lb (0.23mm) regular Power Pro and it's pretty true to spec. This may sound stupid, but is it possible you got the BFS model inside a regular XG box instead? That shallow spool would account for the issue you're having

I have an Antares 70A. I believe it has the same size spool as the Curado 70.  It will hold exactly 100 yards of 12lb Invizx which is the same size as 30lb Power Pro.  Not sure what the OP has going on?

That might be it - the BFS model capacity is only 50yds of 8#mono - .28mm

@MN Fisher exactly. Maybe someone switched spools (I'm not sure they're compatible because of the extra magnetic brakes on the BFS) or reels entirely.

@Skeeloco does the spool look like this? With all of those speed holes?

FYI, Fins Sling Braid 30#  is 25mm/.009D. Your reel stats is 105 yds of 10 lb mono unknown dia, .011D = .28mm average mono?

I made a list of line diameters used by Shimano as per Japan Tackle. Not sure how accurate it is, but I assume it's fairly accurate. FYI I also have both the Curado MGL 71 and SLX MGL 71, no issue with spool capacity with 10lb big game and 10lb yo Zuri, both equal diameter to 12lb line as per below. I think the braid the op is using may be larger diameter than advertised by whatever company makes the line.

6lb =  .235mm
8lb =  .26mm
10lb =  .285mm
12lb =  .31mm
14lb =  .33mm

Totally the bfs spool, it doesn't work with the 70 mgl side plate though because the bfs I magnetic, the 70mgl is not. But if you've got the spool in the reel and its casting fine, you probably have the side plate as well.
