So my first generation Saros 1000F reel died.

it had the screw in handle, and I think the gear broke off inside the handle while still attached to the body of the reel. I could turn the handle and nothing moved. I couldnt' even get the handle off the reel...soooo...it was either send it in for repair somewhere (would probably take months) or....

ORDER A NEW REEL!

so I ordered a Nasci FC 1000. Ironically it also has the screw in handle (but I love this feature)

any reviews? I use it on my classic 18 year old G. Loomis SJR700 GL3 rod.

thanks!

JP Tackle News only has this blurb, comparing Nasci to Ultegra.

https://www.jpfishingtacklenews.com/shimano-autumn-winter-2021-spinning-reels/

If you wait around for the '17 Nasci in this hour-long Tackle Advisors video, he notes the main gear doesn't have bearings, but rides in plastic "bushings" cast into the side plates.

Noteworthy, '21 schematic shows this has been partly remedied, and your new reel apparently has main one bearing.  (Part #65)

Not that it matters much after a model is completely redesigned, but I have a couple of older JDM Nachi reels that, while not that high in the Shimano line up, are really good smooth reels.

I actually just finished cracking open a Nasci FB 1000. It does in fact have bearings supporting the main gear as well as an X ship bearing. The FC model upgrades to a screw in handle which is a plus. The line roller isn't the best on these but an upgrade kit from Hedgehog studio is readily available. The one thing to be aware of is that at least on the FB series, the 1000 size has a single felt drag washer which is what I would say is my one gripe.

Nasci FB 1000 has 4 bearings total

2 supporting main gear

1 supporting pinion gear

1 X ship

Bushings are present in the handle (plastic) and line roller (metal)

I have two nasci 1K and 3K. Both have been smooth in light saltwater. As mentioned, replaced the felt with smooth drag and a bit of grease. To me, the Nasci and spheros are the Shimano bargains.

IMO the Spheros is Shimano's best spinning reel for the price. You get worm shaft oscillation for only $20 over the Nasci and as a bonus the name of the reel is also easier to pronounce. I just wish they made it in smaller sizes.
