basser27 Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 Is 12lb mono too heavy of a leader for 10lb braid) Quote
Big Rick Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 My thoughts are I would use 10 lb braid for smaller baits and finesse presentations. 12 lb leader material would potentially kill any action a finesse bait would impart due to its diameter in ratio to the braid. On 10 lb braid I'd lean toward 6-8 lb leader material. 2 Quote

Then your 12 lb leader would make more sense. With 10 lb braid you're gonna get a lot of line bite on hook sets. A senko is a slack line presentation so your spool will be a bit loose, causing your line to bite in when you set the hook. Again, this is just my opinion and YMMV. 2 Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted April 28, 2022 Super User Posted April 28, 2022 I only use 12 lb fluorocarbon leader when I'm skipping Senkos under docks, but my main line is 20 lb braid. If not skipping or around something highly abrasive, I use an 8-10 lb fluorocarbon leader. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted April 28, 2022 Super User Posted April 28, 2022 I wouldn't use any leader. 2 Quote

Super User FishTank Posted April 28, 2022 Super User Posted April 28, 2022 Ideally you want your leader to be the same or one step down in diameter from your main line. So if your main line is 30lb Sufix 832 at .011 in diameter, your leader would be would be around 12 to 15lb at or near the same diameter. 1 Quote

I disagree with that, the leader should be a larger diameter than the braid main line. You will often see salt water guys using a 20lb FC leader on 15lb braid. O.P. 12lb is a perfect match for 10lb braid. Quote
