pharmfisher Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 I I have the opportunity to get this exact boat. It is not my preferred color. I like how the white looks, but I'm worried about keeping it clean. I have never owned a boat. How big of a headache will keeping this boat clean be? I fish a lot of clear lakes, but I also fish some stained water. Are the scum lines so hard to get off that it isn't worth a boat this color? 4 Quote
Finessegenics Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 I like it, but couldn’t tell you about keeping it clean, the boat crowd will help you with that. Have to imagine that regular, normal cleaning will keep it looking great regardless of color. Lund’s are beautiful and I’m dreaming of owning one someday. I say go for it! Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted April 28, 2022 Super User Posted April 28, 2022 Actually its a great color to keep clean. All boats may get dirt or mud on them while trailering that need to be sprayed off. On a lighter colored hull, scum lines are easy to wipe off with a wet rag if you aren't near a hose. But the really hard stuff to clean are hard water spots. If you have a dark colored boat its nearly impossible to keep them off - especially black Mercury motors! That white hull will rinse off with the best of them and not show the hard water spots the rest of us have to really scrub and buff to get off. And the Yamaha blue will stay clean much better than a dark colored motor. 5 Quote

I have a white hull (selected it on purpose) and its relatively easy to keep clean compared to the black Merc outboard. Its the same reason I own a lighter-colored truck and not a black one. Quote
DaubsNU1 Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 My brother got a Lund Alaskan in similar color. He wanted something different...but the white / silver was a great opportunity and deal. He loves the color. Easy to keep clean. Much like a truck...lighter colors easier, darker colors show everything. My previous truck was dark metallic gray (almost black). Always looked dirty. Current truck is silver...much better!! 1 Quote
volzfan59 Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 Although my current rig is camo, I actually prefer white boats. When I first started serious bass fishing, my neighbor (who always had white boats) taught me this. Carry an old hand towel or dish towel in your truck. When you pull your boat out of the water, wet the cloth and immediately wipe it down. The scum line/ water line will wipe right off with no problem. I would always follow up with a dry cloth, but that's just me. Scum lines are easy to get off as long as you don't let them dry. I always waxed my boats top to bottom once a year. In a spray bottle, mix roughly 75% water with 25% white vinegar. That will remove water spots on your boat and outboard fairly easily. I realize that I'm kinda OCD about things, but I never let my boat stay dirty and always keep up with preventive maintenance. I also never had a problem selling a rig when I wanted to upgrade. All thanks to my old neighbor Charlie, rest in peace my friend. 3 Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted April 28, 2022 Super User Posted April 28, 2022 No matter the hull color a good coat of your favorite wax or protectant will keep the hull easy to clean. As for trucks, I had a 2004 Silverado I bought new that was black, in 2016 I traded it and bought another new Silverado that is Iridescent Pearl Tricoat (basically white). I am very picky about a clean truck. IMHO the white is twice as hard to keep clean than the black was. 2 minutes ago, volzfan59 said: I always waxed my boats top to bottom once a year. While I fully agree with your wax comment, you are aware that a vinegar mixture is acidic and will strip wax off correct? I have used vinegar but always waxed after. I never use it as a regular cleaner. 1 Quote

I use Boat Bling Hot Sauce and microfiber towels on the hull of my aluminum boat. There is no water involved. Spray on, wipe off. I can't stand skum lines, especially on a white boat. This stuff really works well and its so easy to use. It will also remove water spots on a dark surface like the outboard. I also use Vinyl Sauce on my seats to remove water spots. Boat Bling makes really good products for boat cleaning. 4 Quote

I can’t stand a dirty boat. I use 303 on mine to clean an always waxed protected. Too much of a investment to ignore. As for trucks I know it’s hard to keep clean but I love my black truck. 3 Quote
Super User gim Posted April 28, 2022 Super User Posted April 28, 2022 @GaryH that is a nice setup! I won't hold the black truck or boat against you lol. Its about taking some pride in the expensive items you own here. You can always tell who is not taking care of their boat when there is a nasty, visible skum line on the side of the hull. 1 Quote

As for the hull color, white, black, red, whatever… scum lines from frog water and hard water stains are gonna show up after a day on the water. It’s a matter of developing a routine and product preference in in wiping down the boat after pulling it out of the water. My routine is using Bow To Stern (BTS) and microfiber towels. It kept everything on my ‘04 Ranger looking good and I expect it to do the same on my new boat. Good luck with your new boat! 1 Quote

Super User Bird Posted April 28, 2022 Super User Posted April 28, 2022 While on the subject of boat hygiene, ever use 303 aerospace UV protectant ? This stuff is fantastic for eliminating fade and cracks. Better solutions already mentioned for scum line though. 1 Quote

I don’t use it on the gel but I do on everything else including my road armor trailer and it’s tires. 1 Quote

pharmfisher Posted April 29, 2022 Author Posted April 29, 2022 Thank you all for the advice. I am now really excited about possibly getting this boat. You guys are the best. 1 Quote

And you can add vinegar to your live well and kills zebra and quagga mussels without harmful chemicals to your live well system. Quote
schplurg Posted May 1, 2022 Posted May 1, 2022 Are there more water spots on dark colors or do they just show up more? I like my white van vs my old black truck but I'm lazy and don't wash it very often Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 2, 2022 Super User Posted May 2, 2022 The OP’s boat color question the white is only above the water line, gray bottom and carpet combination is a low maintenance combination. The trick is wipe it down every outing after putting the boat on the trailer. Keep the sides off the dock with bumpers. Tom Quote
