Deephaven Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 20lb braid, I can't stand stiff lines with poppers. 1 Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted April 27, 2022 Super User Posted April 27, 2022 With a 1/4 oz popper it'd be Sunline Shooter Defier Armilo Nylon Line 11 lb. 3 1 Quote

Super User Boomstick Posted April 27, 2022 Super User Posted April 27, 2022 I use 12lb Sufix Advance but I'd be willing to downsize that to 8# or 10# if it was just 1/4oz poppers. Quote
ChrisO91 Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 30# braid....if the fish are missing it, or short striking, I may add a 10-12# mono leader. Quote
Super User Bankc Posted April 27, 2022 Super User Posted April 27, 2022 Depends on the stick. If the rod is kind of stiff, I'll go with 10# mono to add some stretch for those treble hooks. If the rod has good flex, I prefer 30# braid. I'm not too picky for poppers. Now walking baits, I heavily prefer mono. I don't know why, but they seem to get the hooks tangled up in the line a lot easier than poppers, and the stiffness of mono seems to help with fouling. Quote
zell_pop1 Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 Sunline Defier Shooter in 13lb(.0118). Armillo gets really coily quick, Shooter handles better. If I need more abrasion resistance then Armillo and some KVD line conditioner works ok. Now Defier lines are pricey so I also use Gamma or McCoys copoly, and I want to try the P-line topwater as it seems to get good reviews. Quote

Big Rick Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 I have a specific combo just for popper fishing, which is a Tatula Elite reel with the Powell Naked CB rod in 6'10". I can cast a 1/4 popper further than I care to fish it back. I use 30# Power Pro with a P-Line TOPWATER copolymer leader of about 4 ft. The leader floats, is just stiff enough to prevent hooks tangling on a pause, and yet has the perfect "delay" on hook sets to insure good penetration. 1 Quote

jdr99a Posted April 30, 2022 Posted April 30, 2022 It’s usually 12lb maxima ultragreen for me. I’ve been messing around with defier armillo and so far it’s been good. Quote
