I use 10 and 15lb for moving baits. I find it very stretchy and don't like it for jigs and such.

Step up to 20

This is why you need Sufix Advance mono. Way less stretch than any other mono.

Who flips with 15 lb line?

15 seems fine for @Catt

may not be true flipping, but I wouldn’t hesitate putting 15 into lay downs or anything of the sort

Why ain't it? ?

Flipping-n-pitching are forms of casting just like roll cast or overhead cast or sidearm cast.

When I'm fishing I'm using em all

Sorry for the late reply guys it has been a VERY long day at work. I picked up (2) of the Berkeley Big Game  1100yd spools from tackle supply depot for about $3 each. It’s gonna get used for sure. Thank you guys so much!!

edit: I got the spools in 12# because it’s what was left in stock with the store closing sale.

Never once been broken off using 12,15,20,25,or 30 Big Game pulling in a bass. It's stupid strong. Plus, you get a half mile of line for 10 bux. If you somehow mange to nest a spool beyond repair, who cares? Re-spool for peanuts. It also responds well to line conditioner if you're into that sort of thing. There are better lines out there, but for the price? Maybe on another planet.

In all the years I have been using Big Game mono, I have never once had a fish break me off or have I ever had a knot slip.  When braid first came out, I lost a 25 pound snook when the knot came undone.  After that experience, I was done with braid unless I was fishing where I had no choice.  Anglers overthink fishing line.  A great angler can catch fish on the cheapest line you can find in Big Lots.  A lousy angler can't catch fish with the most expensive line on the planet.  I once had a chance to fish with one of the greatest Rattle Trap anglers I have ever seen.  He had a couple of old red Ambassador 5000 reels and some rods with broken guides. His line looked like it hadn't been changed in 20 years.   He was so good I sat down in the boat just to watch him catch fish.  The new guys in our club always thought he cheated.  He didn't need to.

I fish with a lot of fellas that throw those old round red reels and they talk very fondly of the king spot (I’m guessing by cotton Cordell). Did the guy you fished with mention that bait at all?

sorry for the hijack but I gots to know….

15# Big Game for everything but punching!

My hookup ratio is in the upper 90 percentile  range so I do not believe the stretch associated with mono effects my hookup ratio any. The abrasion resistance & shock absorption of Big Game is unmatched by any.

I've fished braided Cotton, Dacron, Micron, Suture Material (Silk), Micro Dyneema®, Kevlar, & Spectra.

Used nothing but Big Game 12-lb all through the 80s and most of the 90s - everything from bass to near offshore king mackerel.  It more than covered all the drag you could get from a Penn 4400SS.

Switched to Seaguar fluoro for its advantages in salt (and superior knot strength over other fluoro). BB-25 loaded with BG.

I've never found stretch to be an issue, even on lures/hooks that require hard strikes, and the lure maker recommends fishing braid to eliminate stretch.

Worst complaint about mono/fluoro is line memory, and good braid will make you forget line memory ever annoyed you.

Bad braid has its own set of annoyances.

No, he was a Rattle Trap specialist.  He liked both the 1/2 oz and 3/4 oz. Traps.  He is gone now.  I am sure he fished the Spot as it came out much earlier than the Trap. I fished them myself back then.  The Rattle Trap is lighter and it seems to vibrate more than the Spot. I imagine it's a good bait to use when everyone else is throwing the same thing.  There are times here on the chain if you aren't fishing a Trap you aren't fishing.   Lots of old baits are having a resurgence for that reason.

Gotcha, thanks. The king spot is no longer made, I think they are all super spot now

Do you ever feel like you’d get more bites on lighter line?

Yes but what I lose in abrasion resistance ain't worth it.

I've thrown 12# in saltwater for Specks but the Redfish snap it easily. Like @Captain Phil mentioned a bass can't break 15# but a Bull Red definitely can.

I used 10 & 12lb Green Big Game about 25 years on my fresh water bait casting bass reels for 25 years. All 5 giant bass listed were caught in Big Game.

The only reason I changed to Sunline Armillo was line capacity on my 300 size swim baits reels, 25 lb Armillo is nearly the same diameter as 15 lb BG @ .016D.

I used to be a big game user, but then i found Sufix Siege and fell in love, its just as strong and abrasion resistant but the difference is it handles 100x better, casts better and is limp. you can use it on spinning gear with no issues, you really can't with Big Game unless its maybe the 8 pound.

the only draw back of course, its the price of Siege compared to Big Game, its vastly more expensive.

but I just eat the cost knowing its by far my favorite mono.

Yes it does. Since it came out. Never any problems

Big Game is ok considering the price, I would rather spend the money on Gamma/McCoys/Sunline copolys which are similar in strength per line diameter but better handling.

Any opinions on Berkely Fluroshield Copoly? I just spooled up two reels with 17lb (.015) to take to Florida (from Indiana) to do some inshore and maybe bass fishing. Testing it out with a 3/8 chatterbait it seems to cast really smooth and supposedly has like 24.9 lb break strength and tied a strong knot with improved clinch.

Yes. It works fine on a baitcaster. Most of mine are spooled with 10# or 12# Big Game.
