Sounds like a wild night at the lake ! Either that or she pooped her pants.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention I caught a duck.

It's not too crazy, but the weirdest thing I've reeled in someone else's broken off rig with a catfish still on it.

LOL ! Please elaborate.

My buddies dad was ready to toss me overboard! I was a youngster and just saw something floating in the water, so naturally I cast out there and try to hook it. Well it was a nasty rotting chicken haha!!! I got in trouble for that one

Dead chicken

A dead body ?

Seriously! Was a teenager, the body had been under water for 4 days.

Well let me clarify, I don't catch the body, it was caught on a trotline, & I found it.

That's a image I'll never get out my head.

I’ve seen several dead headless black chickens floating in my lake. I also regularly see oranges and flowers and stuff floating around. I think it is two separate religious groups - one for the chickens, and the other for the fruit and flowers.

I have a picture of my weirdest catch, but it’s not for family viewing. I hooked a backpack floating in the lake. Inside was an artificial part of the female anatomy (from the top of the legs to the bottom of the belly), lube, a remote control, some kind of pump, VR glasses, and a few other gadgets. I looked it up online and it was almost $1k worth of stuff.

When I first picked up the backpack and felt how soft and heavy it was, I started thinking, what if there’s a human head in here? Then when I opened the pack (with a stick) and peeked inside and saw the flesh color and what looked like real skin, I about had a heart attack.

I snagged a metal box that had a pistol in it.  I wasnt very surprised given the area that I was in.

When we were kids a freind of mine snagged the body of a 50 some YO angler in the lake right down the street from me.  They said he had a heart attack while fishing and fell in the lake a few days before his body was recovered.  I think his family had actually reported him missing.

It didnt seem to really bother my buddy very much.  I dont think I could say the same had it been me who found that poor guy.

Several weird ones..... a water moccasin, a duck, a bag full of needles, a severed deer head, a gun, a tennis racket, and diapers.  There are probably more but that's about all I can remember.

Years ago if the water was too muddy for bass fishing we would fish with nightcrawlers on the bottom for catfish. Caught several eels and a salamander. Caught a water snake on a crankbait while bass fishing. Fellow I was fishing with caught a rod and reel.

Nothing weird in fresh water.  In salt water, I've caught and landed three seagulls, two with my fly rod on Crease flies, and one on a floating Rapala.  I also caught a rod and reel fishing for flounder.  It had been salt water long enough for the guides to rust off.  The reel an old Penn 60, I took home, cleaned up, and it worked. I used it for a couple of years.  I still have it.

I caught a rod and reel - a Shimano Caenan & Ugly Stick, and cleaned it up and got it working again, fished with it for a year or so, then one day hooked a carp while the rod was sitting between my legs and the rod flew into the lake and I haven't seen it since. Maybe some other fisherman found it...

I over casted a Spinnerbait which embedded into a dock. I tried to shake it loose which to my surprise inticed the interest of a beagle hound.

The hound actually ran down the dock and grabbed my Spinnerbait and now I'm sitting in my boat with a dog on the end of my line.

My fishing partner is no help at all, just laughing histerically while I'm fighting a hound......drag singing.

Was finally able to get to land and staddle the friendly dog and unhook my Spinnerbait.

An event that I'll never forget.

A submarine......On Cayuga Lake, Cornell University works with the government on deep freshwater research. They often have a small (one or two person) submarine they use to dive down to over 300 feet (Cayuga Lake is over 400 feet deep in spots).  They have "spotter"/support boat that sits above the area they are diving, and they put markers out to indicate the area the sub is working.  One day a friend of mine and I were deep trolling for lake trout. We were about 1/4 mile away from where the sub was supposed to be working. But, it seems that the sub had some kind of navigation problem and were off course and away from the area they were supposed to be. Anyway, our lines got caught on the sub. The drags on the reels were screaming, and we had no idea what was going on. Then the sub came up about 100 feet away from us, and sat there bobbing on the surface waiting for their support boat to come get them. We carefully putted over near the sub, and could see out lines, complete with dodgers and lures, hanging off the sub. We thought we were in trouble, but when the support boat came over and hooked onto the sub, they hailed us to come over to them. They apologized to us for interfering with our fishing, and returned the tackle to us. That was the weirdest thing we ever "caught".
