Whopper ploppers.  I have 3 of them and none of them work.  I wished they did, I really do.  Topwater fishing is awesome.

I’m with you. I try jigs every time. I’ve caught one bass on a jig. And as that was as soon as it hit the water, I didn’t have much to do with it.

I’m to the point now that I only throw baits I’ve had success with.
I really don’t experiment with what’s new and popular any more.

As a co angler it’s all about what rods and baits I need to use for most conditions but still trying to be efficient with what I bring and effective with what I use.

Hoping to break the devils horse skunk tomorrow. Don't think it is one those deals that just works immediately for me. But I have a lot of confidence in the lure despite it not catching anything for me yet because, well, it looks cool in the water. I'm also willing to put forth more effort with it because it is a lure that has been around for forever and has a lot of history.

All lures work sometimes, and no lure works all the time, wishing some did or didn't doesn't even enter into the equation for me.

I guess I can agree there. I just so happened to tie on a tube at the beginning of the year, and caught a 6lb greenie. I've used traps in thick grass with 50lb braid, 7'3" Heavy rod, and an 8 gear reel and smoked them. It's amazing to me how I learn from trial and error. However, the jerkbait bite is elusive for me. I bank fish from 3-10 ft of water, ideal conditions, and still have a hard time. Then in the same area, I'll throw a squarebill or shakeyhead and smoke 'em. For me color is the predominant issue. Muddy water, anything with red, yellow, chartreuse, lime green or white seems to work.

So far this year I have done absolutely nothing fishing with jerkbaits.  Spinnerbaits, swim jigs, crankbaits, and traps have all produced in the ponds I have been fishing in.  I think I will give them a rest for a while and try them again in a couple of weeks after the weather settles down a bit.

Well, you’re one ahead of me, lol. I recall the one and only time I ever got a reaction from pitching a jig. A 4-5lb. came out of the cover and inspected it for what seemed like an eternity, then swam away like a stuck up snob. That was at least 8 years ago but that memory bad been burned into the archives.?

My stomping grounds for the last few years have been terrible for whopper ploppers, frogs, and buzzbaits, and that really hurts my soul because I love those lures. I think I have caught less than 5 fish total on the three lures combined in the last couple years, hopefully that will change this year, but we'll see.
