rtwvumtneer6 Posted April 23, 2022 Posted April 23, 2022 Searched for this topic with no success... Apologies if I've missed something. Have heard a lot at weigh-in interviews and commercials for BaitFuel. I am a MegaStrike user as far as non-dye attractants go and suppose I'll give this stuff a shot. Has anyone used it? Please share your thoughts... Quote
ike8120 Posted April 23, 2022 Posted April 23, 2022 I just got mine the other day, haven't tried it yet, It states to marinate your baits before using. Basically just putting your plastics in a bag with some bait fuel. 2 Quote
Finessegenics Posted April 23, 2022 Posted April 23, 2022 All I know about it is it’s basically odorless to us and it was developed at Queen’s University in Kingston, ON. I’m interested in buying some so if I see it at the tackle store, I’ll buy a bottle or two. It’s pretty cheap compared to other attractants out there. 3 Quote
Dogface Posted April 23, 2022 Posted April 23, 2022 I just ordered it and it should arrive today. Hopefully I'll get to try it today or tomorrow. SmallmouthCrush had one of the guys pushing it on his podcast. If you do a search you can find it and listen to what he had to say. After listening to him I thought it was worth a try. 1 1 Quote
schplurg Posted April 23, 2022 Posted April 23, 2022 The video shows guys with white lab coats. It's revolutionary and it supercharges. This means it will work. The video was interesting. At least they're offering some scientific explanation behind their product, unlike most others. Like any product, I would take the pro's opinions with a grain of salt. They are likely paid and also, what can they tell us that any other fisherman can't? "I'm a pro so I can tell if fish like attractant better than other people!" I'm a born skeptic. 5 1 Quote

I hear what you're saying, and do take that into account if I were making a big financial commitment. $10 in this game is minimal risk. 1 Quote
Dogface Posted April 24, 2022 Posted April 24, 2022 I tried the Bait Fuel yesterday. The results were inconclusive. I hit a place that does hold bass. I tried two baits, a swim bait and a Z-Man TRD. I fished both first without scent, with Bait Fuel and with Pro-Cure. I did not catch any fish. I did have pan fish hitting the TRD both with and without scent. I had one light hit on the swimbait with the Pro-Cure that did not hook up. Bait Fuel recommends marinating the baits before using them. I did not have time to do that but I am in the process of doing that now. Hopefully I'll come up with a way to give the Bait Fuel a fair evaluation. BTW there is no odor and it seems to be water based because there was no greasy residue on my fingers after I applied it. It just dried up. It is definitely not like Smelly Jelly. ☺️ 1 Quote
rtwvumtneer6 Posted May 6, 2022 Author Posted May 6, 2022 Another small sample size here, but I soaked a couple trailers overnight and went out today. Caught 7 or 8, and every single one was pinned really well. I tried to shake a couple and they wouldn't drop it. Much like my MegaStrike, I can't say for sure if the attractant played a role in that or not, but I'm convinced with both that it can't hurt. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted May 6, 2022 Super User Posted May 6, 2022 I used my bottle of it last weekend. It smells like nothing and kind feels like my wife's hair gel. All I know is 3 hours later and 12 fish in the boat, I was a believer. I tried all kinds of baits that day but it seemed like I was getting the best strikes on jigs. Quote

MeatHead1313 Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 Does anyone know if this would work inshore for redfish/speckled trout/flounder as well or was it designed purely for bass? I was thinking of getting a bottle but fish inshore far more often this time of year. Quote

One note after doing this, the baits came out of the bag slimy and snot covered. I believe some of the gel had congealed. Not sure if it was from heat, or if that's a normal reaction. Either way, it made me appreciate the lack of smell in this product. Wiped my hands off, threaded the bait on and caught a bunch of fish! Quote

Always wondered if applying some sort of lubricant would help it slide through better Quote

If you're talking about silt or vegetation I don't think you would see a difference. A solution there could be a lighter weight of you use one, a more streamlined bait and making sure your tags and knot aren't exposed. 1 Quote
