I set a goal of catching a 5 pound plus Michigan largemouth, and have finally reached it after 2 years. Last year I got a 4-2, and was super happy with that. But this past weekend I finally got my 5-8, 22 incher. What are your guys Michigan PBs? Also what kind of goals do you guys set for yourselves?

Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~

Nice Bass !

Congrats on the new Michigan Personal Best.

I'm up in Otsego county and my best local LMB is

a 23 inch Pre-spawn fish that came in at 7 lbs.

MY MI PB Green Bass pic

The PB Brown bass was a super Fat 7-5 lb Fall fish ~

Long Sally SMB (2).jpg

As far as 'goals' go - surpassing either one of those anytime soon might be unlikely.

But that's not stopping me from trying !

(as soon as we get some open water that is)

Fish Hard

Thanks brotha, I’m pretty stoked I finally got it. But mannn, those are some nice fish you got! It’ll be tough to beat those. Good luck, hope you catch a big one!

Dang it ajay, you made it snow down here today. My best for both is still under 5#, but over 4. I lost my pb sm (ripped the rear treble off my topwater) 10 feet from the boat. I know that would've pushed 6, but she don't count. Pb's to everyone this year.

My Michigan PB is probably about 2.5-3 lbs but I hooked a 4 ish smallie that escaped my kayak landing attempt. I was fishing a tiny grub for yellow perch when I got both of them haha

Yea this snow is a bummer. Too bad your big smallie got off. Those moments of losing nice ones, or seeing big follows are what motivated me too grind for this fish. Good luck this year, hope you get the big one you’re lookin for!

Lol. It’s funny how the big ones bite the small lures some days. Good luck this year dude, I hope a big one comes your way!

I caught a 4-9 pre-spawn smallmouth a few years ago that spit up a bunch of teeny inch long crawdads on the deck of my boat. The little TRD Bug I caught it on was huge in comparison to the craws it had been eating.

I don’t know if I’ll make it to Michigan this year but hopefully!

My Michigan PB’s are a 5-4 largemouth and a 3-8 smallmouth. My goals are a 6 pound green and a 5 pound brown.

Those are both really nice fish, anything over 5# for a largemouth up here is pretty hard to come by as far as I’m concerned. 6# is my new largemouth goal as well. The fact that the smallie state record was broken just a few years ago gives me some hope that a monster largemouth could be lurking around somewhere too. Just gotta find her. Good luck brotha, hope you get a shot at a big one!

This is mine. Might have been my first time bass fishing in Michigan, but I was fishing with my Grandpa and Dad. Grandpa knew where to fish, what rig to use, and he knew that live bluegill were a big deal on this dock. I was tossing around a spinnerbait as my Dad and Grandpa rigged live bait and Grandpa handed me the rod when the bluegill was attacked. Might have been Grandpa's first time fishing in months. Good time with family.

This is probably my MI LM PB, I'm a hard headed idiot without a scale, my guess is 6ish.  Last year, 1st wk of April, on a swim jig in 6-8' of water.  My PB MI SM was a 21" 5.3lb on a cane pole 30 years ago mid summer fishing for perch with wax worms.  Congrats on your PB!  Your girl has a head/build on her like she's got more room to fill out, which is pretty incredible for up north.

Man that’s a tank! Too bad you didn’t have a scale. But yea I agree, my fish will probably have a bigger belly sometime throughout the year. Ill have to find her again when she’s 6#. Congrats on that big one you got as well!

Awesome fish and story, super cool colors on that fish.  Nice work brotha. Gotta listen to the guys that've been around to learn the old tricks. Grandpa knows best!

Been bass fishing MI my whole life and can't seem to top 6lbs. Here are a few from a few years back (keep in mind I'm 6'-3" so these may look small). One on a hair jig and one on a lipless crank. I have also caught several in the 5lb-5.5 range. Great pics from others as well. Love this thread!

Great fish dude. Hope I find that 6 pounder eventually. Also, hope you have some luck and stick a pig this year too brotha. Have a good one!

Thank you sir!  You as well. Just need to hook into a AJ size smallmouth now. Personal best isn't near where it should be :)

Yea, the record smallie was broken just a couple years ago so the big boys gotta be out there somewhere. Good luck!

I’m in Lake Orion and haven’t caught anything significant for LMB. Maybe 4 lbs. For smallmouth, finally broke the 6 lb barrier. She was 6.1 lb and 21 1/2”. Caught in a small lake in NW Michigan in July 2021.

Nice work, that’s a hog smallie! I’m near lake Orion too. It’s tough finding big ones out here for sure.
