70diesel Posted April 17, 2022 Posted April 17, 2022 I have a regular battery dedicated just for my livescope and 106uhd but it is only lasting about 5 hours so I think I need to upgrade to a lithium but I'm not sure what size to get. I'm looking at the Dakota lithium and they have a 23ah for just over $200 that seems like it should last over 8 hours a day. The next size up is like $500 which is really out of my price range. How long would the 23ah battery last. From my research the livescope/106 combo is around 3amps. I'd like to get about 10hrs a day out of a battery, do I need to go bigger than 23ah? Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted April 17, 2022 Super User Posted April 17, 2022 Amps * time = AH used Lithiums can be drawn down to near 0% charge without degrading performance So 3amp draw * 10 hrs = 30AH for a Lithium...add a bit for safety factor or more time Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted April 17, 2022 Super User Posted April 17, 2022 What wire guage are you running to your livescope? I had power issues with mine but then realized my run to my buss bar I was using was too small. Moved up to 8guage and all power issues are now gone. Check your wire size your running first before diving off into lithiums Quote

Also - what's the AH rating of the battery you're using now. If it's a Gel or AGM - multiply that AH by 0.60 to get it's "true" AH. Get below 40% charge on one of those and you start having issues. 70diesel Posted April 18, 2022 Author Posted April 18, 2022 I'm using the factory wires from garmin directly to the battery, I didn't have to add additional wiring. I'm not sure what the AH rating is of my current battery but it's a standard battery, not AGM or Gel. Quote

If you know the reserve capacity - you can calculate the AH (Reserve*60*25)/3600 = AH Quote
Alex from GA Posted April 19, 2022 Posted April 19, 2022 You can get a 50 ah lithum for $220 @ amazon. I've been using one for my trolling motor for several months with good results. Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted April 19, 2022 Super User Posted April 19, 2022 I have the 30 AH wide from Amped for my Helix 7 and accessory lights on the kayak. I don't think I've taken it below 75% on an 8 hour day. Depending on the head unit, Amped says you'll get 8+ hours running a 12" unit plus livescope and 10+ hours on a 9" unit and livescope. They are out of stock at the moment, but they are $189 and a good battery. https://ampedoutdoors.com/pages/garmin® 2 Quote

I was looking at them on Amazon but was nervous since not a lot of fishing people mention them. I've been looking at the amped batteries also (30ah) but as you said, it's sitting in a cargo ship that until the other day has been stuck in the mud in the Chesapeake bay, ironically 1 hour from my house. I'm running the 23AH Dakota Lithium with my livescope GLS 10 box. I run the 93UHD head with a 17AH FPV battery. The Dakota runs my livescope all day 10hrs+. I use the separate battery so if my livescope battery drains I still have my 93 UHD working. FM Quote

After four months, it wouldn't take a full charge any more. I'm looking at Amped or Dakota replacements. Quote
