Super User DitchPanda Posted April 17, 2022 Super User Posted April 17, 2022 So I've seen plenty of guys throwing digs at Randy the past year about his outspoken opinions and his stance on technology..and while I don't agree with his old man get off my lawn stance I've defended him. Until now. I just watched a video of his where he is complaining about too many tournaments being held. This is a guy who A) has now and in the past received sponsor money for selling fishing products B)does guiding on the water lessons to help make guys more efficient anglers aka tourney ready C) has talked at length about it being great seeing new anglers come into the sport and how we need to recruit new anglers so it doesn't die D) talked about his love for tournament fishing basically encouraging people to try it. So let me get this straight: you want new people to get into the sport and start tournament fishing to keep this thing alive while at the same time you want less tourneys so table rock lake isn't crowded for you? Get real man. What's next? He's gonna ***** that living rubber jigs are overused after he's been pushing his old school jigs in every video for the last 3 months? Apologies for the rant...just really grinds my gears.
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted April 17, 2022 Super User Posted April 17, 2022 But, you are watching him. When will all the Randy haters realize all he wants are views? 4

I will never watch another one. I watched about 4 min of one and that was enough for me. However, the people that complain about him seem to watch every video he puts out. 1 1

Super User Bankbeater Posted April 17, 2022 Super User Posted April 17, 2022 He actually has some pretty good tips, but you can tell real quick when a rant is starting. That's when I close the browser. 1
Super User Deleted account Posted April 17, 2022 Super User Posted April 17, 2022 I watch it for the entertainment value, and like most every other YTber, he's just putting up content that will maximize traffic. The whole Barney Rubble decor, tech hating, kids out of control, bare bones production thing works for him, so more power to him. Filleting Senkos made me laugh out loud. 2

That's when I close the browser. There's no doubt that the guy is knowledgeable... He's been a pro fisherman for 35 years and has won at the highest level including almost winning a classic. But he has officially gone off the rails. I do like when he does 1 vs 1 stuff with Johnny for fish the moment so ill probably watch that still. 1
Dumbbassanglr Posted April 17, 2022 Posted April 17, 2022 Only thing I don't like are his titles. Seems like most of them claim 90% of fisherman are idiots. 1
volzfan59 Posted April 23, 2022 Posted April 23, 2022 I like the vast majority of Randy's videos, and I find myself agreeing with most, not all, of his opinions. In the video in question, he never said that there were "to many tournaments being held" in a general sense. He was talking about one particular lake (forgot which one), on one particular weekend. Heck, he's right. When I was still living in east TN and still tournament fishing, it was nothing for there to be numerous tournaments on the same body of water, on the same day. Sometimes going out of the same ramp. These tournament directors, sports authority and/or chamber of commerce folks need to start working together. 3

I haven’t seen the video, but if that was indeed the case he was making then it is a pretty reasonable thing to say 1

He was talking about Table Rock and Grand Lake. He did expand his comments to say that city managers, sports authority managers, etc need to work with the tournament directors to not have so many tournaments on any given body of water on the same day.
NavyToad Posted April 23, 2022 Posted April 23, 2022 Easy peasy - don’t watch his videos. WAAAAHH! 1 1
newapti5 Posted April 23, 2022 Posted April 23, 2022 I usually skip his ranting, and focus on his technique tips parts. I don't mind his advertisement or "clickbait" video title either, as he gave out many great ideas at the beginning of his channel. But lately, it is almost like he's going out of his way to be against common fishing techniques and perceptions. I don't know, maybe I am too narrow-minded, but I don't follow everyone of his videos anymore, only occasionally.
Super User Team9nine Posted April 23, 2022 Super User Posted April 23, 2022 Rewatch, as I think you missed his larger point, which is that there needs to be more intelligent and organized scheduling of events on local lakes to keep things balanced, which I agree with completely. Our larger state waters went through this process a couple decades ago, but a lot of our smaller tourney waters suffered for quite a while longer until they got on board and started doing similarly. Most of our most popular tourney waters now fall under these guidelines/restrictions, and it makes life a little easier and more enjoyable for all. 3 1
Super User bowhunter63 Posted April 23, 2022 Super User Posted April 23, 2022 You wanna a laugh look at Randy Flowers on facebook. Ole Randy has nothing on him
SkinnyWaterBasser Posted April 23, 2022 Posted April 23, 2022 How can anyone blame this guy for being original and doing things differently than others to make some money. I encourage anyone who thinks that randy puts out trash to start a channel and run up 65k subs. It's not easy. And his opinions are just that... Opinions... The guy has a wealth of knowledge. I don't agree with 100 percent of what he says but I've picked up a few things here and there that have improved my game. I appreciate his mental Monday segments as I dig his anglers approach at psychology. He does things that others aren't and while he's not the best in the game he's definitely good at what he's doing. 4

That’s the way I rig them. I land 80-90 % of the fish I hook with a fluke rigged that way. So , not sure why he has problems with it… 1
