thediscochef Posted April 18, 2022 Posted April 18, 2022 I fish mostly alone, it's probably 80-90%. I have one buddy I fish with on longer days, he's my guitar player and we're pretty close. Neither of us are big talkers so we don't get too socialized out. My other pal, Country Time, likes catfishing and usually has his cousin with him, who is a good dude but three's just a little much for me. But he is traditionally geared better for longer tougher hikes, so he's my exploring buddy. I don't like exploring off-trail alone for a number of reasons. Most of my other friends don't really know up from down with tackle otherwise so when I go fishing with them it tends to be more of me helping them than me fishing. Which I don't mind, I expect this. But I don't do it a ton cause of schedules mostly. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 18, 2022 Global Moderator Posted April 18, 2022 I usually fish alone. I use to have the excuse that I have odd days off so nobody was able to go. Now I have weekends off and still usually fish alone. I'm starting to get the feeling I just prefer to fish alone. 1 Quote

Now she’s nearly 17 , and has only been once in the last 3 years. Her older brother Tyler is the same way. What gets me is I put them on fish nearly every time. Hopefully they come back to it once they're a little older and miss that time with their grandfather. I grew up with offshore boats and near-weekly fishing trips so I took it for granted most of the time as it was just my "normal." Fell out of love with fishing for many years before I got into bass fishing, now I try to fish with my father as much as I can. 1 Quote
Super User king fisher Posted April 18, 2022 Super User Posted April 18, 2022 I just spent 4 fishing dawn to dusk, and sleeping out under the stars by myself. Yes I fish alone. My only regret is I didn't have 10 more days to fish. 2 Quote

And that's frustrating for me, because it's not really fishing. That's pretty much what ice fishing here is in the winter! Except its frigid cold out and your lawn chair is inside a shack. Quote
MAN Posted April 19, 2022 Posted April 19, 2022 I fish alone. Don't have any friends or family that are really into fishing... just some coworkers. Which is kinda ironic because fishing is my life/career and yet I have never been able to make any fishing buddies. Quote
schplurg Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 I think fishing with someone on a bass boat would be cool (never done it) but bank fishing is different. I bring a friend sometimes and we split and go our separate ways at some point, whether it's creek or lake. Pretty much fishing alone anyways. As far as photos, I caught my first PB (5+ pounds) at a pond and nobody was there to see it! I did have the GoPro on though, so actually everyone DID get to see it (cast, catch and release). I was so excited I called my friend freaking out. After that I got better with the cameras and handling everything solo. You can get a mount for your phone and stick it somewhere on the boat. An old phone with a decent camera would be nice so you still have your main phone handy. Quote
Zcoker Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 I don't mind fishing with someone else if it's the right person, meaning someone who doesn't whine "I wanna go home" all the time. Or someone who doesn't blab about the fishing spots. I fish in crazy places like the Everglades in the black of darkness where no one would even dream about fishing lol Or in some of the craziest weather imaginable. So it's not easy convincing anyone to go fishing once I explain the routine lol Lot of my friends just can't hang or take the abuse or just aren't that into roughing it. When I focus on bass fishing, I can go hours and hours and hours without interruption and anything, even eating and drinking, can evade me until I'm finished. Some people just want to refrain from the all out down and dirty aspect of it, no problem at all. So I just go at it alone and have a total blast!! Quote
Skunkmaster-k Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 My wife goes along the majority of the time , and when the weather is nice Dad will go. I want someone I love to witness me catching the lake record. Or vice versa. It would almost be better to net ol Bertha for my Dad. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 21, 2022 Super User Posted April 21, 2022 Is that an invitation or warning? I fish for fun. 1 Quote
Super User Koz Posted April 24, 2022 Super User Posted April 24, 2022 For years my son was my fishing buddy, but he's 16 now and has other interests. @flatcreek and I fish together occasionally and I enjoy time out on the water with him - I just wish we did better in tournaments. But I spend most of my time fishing alone on my kayak, It's a good way for me to decompress. I'd like to say it gives me time to think, but really it doesn't. My mind goes blank out there except for the task at hand of fishing. It actually allows me to get away from my thoughts, and that can be a good thing. 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 24, 2022 Super User Posted April 24, 2022 I don't mind fishing alone or with someone. I actually prefer sharing life's memories with friends & family. 2022 has taught me, i better bring someone for two reasons. I lost a close fishing buddy right before pre-spawn started making it extremely difficult knowing I can't share the excitement with him this year. Second a minor heart issues says it's time to quit going it alone. 5 1 Quote

Super User scaleface Posted April 25, 2022 Super User Posted April 25, 2022 I have always enjoyed taking off on my bicycle to the Mississippi river by myself . I would have worms , catfish bait , box of wheaties and crappie jigs . I met other kids down there who were doing the same thing . We were the definition of river rats . 2 Quote

Super User the reel ess Posted April 25, 2022 Super User Posted April 25, 2022 I too fish alone. Yeah, with nobody else. You know when I fish alone, I prefer to be by myself. My dad was my fishing partner and he died about 5 years ago. He had stopped going because he got tired easily. I got him to go to a pond one last time in the late summer before he died and he caught a few, then sat on my tailgate and talked to the pond owner. My daughter used to love kayaking with me. She's away at a governor's high school and when she's home she's pretty busy with homework and friends. She always said I fished to long. It's my hope that she'll have a child someday before I get too old to fish, if that's even possible. Other than these two, I'm my favorite fishing buddy. I truly like being alone for a few hours. I have one friend who's also a bit of a loner that I go with sometimes. We get each other so we get along fine. But I don't want to impose by asking him often. 3 Quote
Finnz922 Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 I lost my fishing partner this in Dec of 2021. He was my father in law and we fun fished and tournament fished together. Our last tourney we won. I will always have that memory. This spring I will be trying to fun fish and tournament fish with my wife. She loves fishing and loved fishing with her dad, but has never tournament fished. Looking forward to this new way of life! 3 Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted April 27, 2022 Super User Posted April 27, 2022 I predominantly fish by myself since I’m retired and I can pick and choose the days and conditions I want to fish. I used to take my dad fishing, however he passed away from leukemia two years after I retired and one of the last things he said was he wished he could’ve made one more fishing trip. Once in a while one of my kids will take the day off or a friend will go out on the boat. 1 Quote
Serpent Mound Posted May 2, 2022 Posted May 2, 2022 I'm alone about 90% of the time. I have a lifelong friend who I will fish with on occasion, or to taxi kayak launchings, but unless I'm fishing a dam with lots of people around or a tournament with lots of other people on the lake I'm by myself. I really like it that way. Fishing is a loner's obsession and if you aren't someone who is comfortable and happy being by yourself for long periods of time fishing is definitely not for you. 1 Quote
