Being the smarta$$ that I am, I was catching some dinks Saturday. I threw on a war eagle so I could post it here showing how great they were. Well I caught a 11 lb 5 oz drum on one without any issues So hahaha .... then 2 casts later hahahaha on me as the split ring came apart on the big blade. Is it wrong that I was think about Bass resource posts as I was out on the water? Bass- Resource- itis ? 1 Quote

PressuredFishing Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 No personally, plus we barley have any cover at many of our man-made lakes so if I flipped a moving bait into cover I'd fish the entire lakes cover in like an hour and a half or two, going slow with a jig I can enjoy myself out on the lake all day. Super User LrgmouthShad Posted May 8, 2022 Author Super User Posted May 8, 2022 So incidentally today I had one of those accidental skips. But this one was particularly nice and I was using a rage menace as a trailer. So that got me thinking. I decided to mess around and test out skipping a Zorro short arm with a rage menace trailer. It is definitely not the easiest lure to skip, but I could do it without too much headache. Had to tighten things up quite a bit on the baitcaster, but I could do it fine after a dozen tries or so. Might want to check it out! Quote

If I need to skip something, I'm going to be using something other than a spinnerbait. Underspins, swim jigs, bladed jigs, are all better options here (in terms of success and repeatability). Ditto I really don’t see an advantage to it. Sure, if I’m on a SB bite and I see one way back under some brush and the only way to get to her is a low leveled presentation, I’d much rather just pitch or skip something else to call her out with a much more silent entry than a SB would give. Drawdown Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 I have, but the problem is the blades catch the water at a bad angle, and you don’t get as much “skip” as you should given the angle and the speed with which the lure hit the water. I backlashed pretty bad one time skipping with a spinnerbait, whereas I don’t with jigs. Quote
bx.versatile Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 It looks like a stupid bait, but the Yozuri Knuckle Ball skips amazing well with a swimbait on it. I've caught plenty fish on it and pick up when I want different look from a vibrating jig and spinner bait. The biggest advantage it has over those two is that it casts a lot further. 1 Quote
Super User islandbass Posted May 8, 2022 Super User Posted May 8, 2022 I skip spinnerbaits all the time. I skip them by tying on a different lure. Just kidding. Interesting idea but if I did skip one it would behave even be accident. I have nothing to substantiate what I’m about to say but from its looks alone, it would not seem conducive to skipping. With that said, give it a go. It just might be successful and you will have started a new trend. Quote

I found 2 "good" Terminator T2s while cleaning the garage a couple of weeks ago. Changed the blades out (cause I can't help myself) and have probably caught 50 bass and pickerel on one, including a few pigs, and it still looks good as new (other than the skirt and stick-on eyes). If you like the War Eagles (can't imagine why) you can make one from a humdinger, or better yet, leave it alone and fish it as is, barrel swivel and old school skirt and all. 1 Quote

I was kind of thinking the same thing. But they get hung up a lot more easily on wood than regular spinnerbaits, in my experience. Which kind of defeats the purpose of using them in many instances for me. They do catch fish though. I also avoid the War Eagle Coverts. The regular War Eagles are fine by me. But I have had too many issues with the Covert's blades falling off or getting tangled up in my line whenever I kill it. Once I had the blade fall off AND get tangled in my line on the same cast. I reeled it in to find the split ring on the blade, free of the lure, but attached to my line. Quote
