Big Rick Posted April 16, 2022 Posted April 16, 2022 I'm of the opinion it can't be done with any consistency due to the arm catching water. I sure wish I could, it would be deadly. 2 Quote
Super User gim Posted April 17, 2022 Super User Posted April 17, 2022 I use them a lot around docks but no skipping. 1 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted April 17, 2022 Author Super User Posted April 17, 2022 So this video kinda blew my mind. 4:55 shows a few great skips. Makes me wonder if this is a viable option. I love spinnerbaits in some shade... and, well.... there's a lot of that under docks. I agree that while Carl makes it look easy here, it is probably quite challenging to skip a spinnerbait. I'll give it a shot sometime. Quote
Super User Bird Posted April 17, 2022 Super User Posted April 17, 2022 Can't remember ever skipping a Spinnerbait, never tried Only baits that I've skipped were wacky rig and Zoom flukes. 1 Quote
Basser2021 Posted April 17, 2022 Posted April 17, 2022 I've gotten lucky and done it on accident a couple times But not with any consistency 1 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted April 17, 2022 Super User Posted April 17, 2022 I went fishing one February morning and wound up with a spinnerbait tied on. It skipped the surface like a flat pebble on glass like water surface. Must have gotten 3-4 skips. Then I realized that the water was still frozen. Answer to your question is no. 6 Quote

I don't have the same brand, but I do have some smooth paddle tails to use. The Storm Largo Shad comes to mind as a good candidate. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 18, 2022 Global Moderator Posted April 18, 2022 It can be done with a good trailer on the back, but you're going to have some bad backlashes too. A bladed jig is a way better option for skipping. 4 Quote
Dan N Posted April 18, 2022 Posted April 18, 2022 Strike king is making one specifically for skipping I believe? Or maybe it’s a buzz bait 2 Quote
Super User Bankc Posted April 18, 2022 Super User Posted April 18, 2022 I gave up trying because my line kept getting tangled in the blades. So even if I could get it to skip, I still couldn't get it to retrieve properly. 2 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 18, 2022 Super User Posted April 18, 2022 That looked more like a well executed roll cast than a legit skip. 2 Quote
BassNJake Posted April 18, 2022 Posted April 18, 2022 I think I saw Wesley Strader do it in an Elite event I'm trying to see if I can find the footage 1 Quote

Super User fishballer06 Posted April 19, 2022 Super User Posted April 19, 2022 Sure it could be done, but it's going to lead to more frustration than success, just because the shape of a spinnerbait does not lend itself well to skipping. If I need to skip something, I'm going to be using something other than a spinnerbait. Underspins, swim jigs, bladed jigs, are all better options here (in terms of success and repeatability). 1 Quote
FordsnFishin Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 Brent ehler does it. I recall watching him doing it under trees during a tournament all while in heavy winds. Quote

Well, I don’t own many war eagles either really. I think I have two or three. Because nowadays if I see war eagles, there’s almost always coverts on the same aisle and I take the covert over the war eagle. They are pretty durable Quote
schplurg Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 I don't envision many circumstances where skipping a spinner or such bait would be desirable. Skipped a chatterbait once. Didn't need to, just goofing around. Quote
