whitehackle Posted April 15, 2022 Posted April 15, 2022 Iv posted a few times about this trip. I am in savannah, visiting from england I have found a pomd with plenty of bass in, Iv seen them in the shallows. I caught a small one this morning. My question is how can I catch more? I have hooked to while fishing a whiye fluke on a weighted hook, I think that the bass just took the tail and not the hook. I caught the small one this morning on a small mepps spinner. It seems that I get a few offers with whatever bait on the first few casts, then it goes quiet, is this what normaly happens? Do the bass spook easily? When trout fishing at home, you get one shot at the trout, then they spook, are bass like this? Thanks Quote
Super User Bankc Posted April 15, 2022 Super User Posted April 15, 2022 If the pond is not frequently visited by people or animals, then yes, the fish in it tend to spook very easily. Anything out of the ordinary for them will spook them. I tend to favor more subtle presentations for situations like this. So maybe a Texas-rigged worm, wacky rig worm, or a shaky head with a floating worm. The Mepps spinner is also a good choice, as would something like a Rapala Shad Rap. Basically, anything that isn't too big and doesn't cause a ton of commotion. A lot of times, it'll be easier to catch fish if you have a little bit of wind, as that will help to mask your presence. 1 Quote
whitehackle Posted April 16, 2022 Author Posted April 16, 2022 Well today I have caught 3 bass, 1 from the pond I have been talking about, and 2 from a pond behind where I'm staying. The pond Iv had to out of today I have fished every day for the last 4 days, either no bass till today, I had given up on it for bass really. Seems like a completely different place today, I missed lots of bites, seems they switched on today. Is that common??? Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 16, 2022 Super User Posted April 16, 2022 It’s the full moon cycle during the spawn season creates more activity. If you see bass staying near bare areas on the bottom the bass is protect the bed. White soft plastics cast into the bare area then let it sit until the bass strikes it. Tom Quote
rgasr63 Posted April 16, 2022 Posted April 16, 2022 It sounds like they are on beds there. If that is the case it is lizard time a weightless lizard or a very small weight at the most should be the easiest way to get bit. You got to be a line watcher with the weightless lizard. Quote
Sphynx Posted April 16, 2022 Posted April 16, 2022 Good advice in that senko article, as to the magic secret of how to catch more? Simple, spend your whole life learning and if your lucky you might learn a few things along the way...not unlike trout fishing in that regard. I'd say a pack of 4/0 hooks, a few 1/4oz or so bullet weights, and a bag of green pumpkin, and bag of black/blue flake senko's and you'll be well on your way. Flip it in around sticks, rocks, and grass edges and you'll probably be catching them in no time. Quote
whitehackle Posted April 16, 2022 Author Posted April 16, 2022 Thank you everyone for your help, I had another bass today, only fished for an hour of so. I will try to head out to some new ponds soon. I leave savannah on Wednesday, so I won't be doing any bass fishing after that for a long time. I will have to plan another trip over here soon. 1 Quote
CrashVector Posted April 17, 2022 Posted April 17, 2022 Try a powerbait pit boss in green pumpkin. Bass can't resist em. Quote
