My aunt passed away in NC at the age of 93 . She was the Last of the older generation in our family .? Funeral is next week on friday. I’m not so sure my old suv would make it up there and back. So… I’m renting something.

I have rented one car in my life and that was probably 10 years ago. So  Looking for suggestions. Anyone have stellar experiences with a particular car rental place? Suggestions?

I’m mainly looking for fuel efficiency obviously. I despise cars but trucks would probably cost a fortune so…

Sorry to hear about your aunt, sounds like she had a good long run! I’ve personally never rented a car but I did stink up a rental my mom rented in FLA keys with shrimp bait and they slapped on an extra $75 charge. I tore the car apart before we returned it looking for the source of stink, it was real bad. I couldn’t find it, and I have to do stuff like that at work all the time. The extra charge was justified in my opinion haha

We got into an accident a few years ago and had to get a rental to get home from Texas to Oklahoma. The insurance company would only provide a rental through Enterprise (maybe because of location) and it was a NIGHTMARE.

Yeah but those old commercials with the car wrapped in paper were the best. “We’ll pick you up!”

I did that once with my first car. It got so bad I was holding my breath. Kept wondering what it could be and where it was…?

Then I slowly began remembering the fishing trip from 3 days before when I used river clams for bait!

Cant believe those things start stinking so soon inside a trunk in 95 degree heat…?

I teach geography not ELA, but I have looked at this post 20 times because I am sure I screwed something up with the way it is written. Why is "won't" a contraction for "will not"?

I mean "can't" is (can not) and "isn't" is (is not) and "don't" is (do not).

I don't (do not) even know if I can sleep tonight. Shouldn't (Should not) it be "will'nt"? I'm (I am) flustered guys.

The majority of the time when we travel we rent from either Enterprise or Budget because they usually have the best pricing.

Pricing is based on if you’re gonna leave it at your destination or bring it back to where you rented it from, and the “class” of vehicle.
You’re right a truck or SUV will cost more. We only rent the mid-size not the compact or sub compact, they’re less expensive but don’t have enough room.
You’ll have to decide that when they ask which one you want.

When they give you the keys inspect every inch of the car inside and out!

Look fir a torn seat, stains, loose trim, dents and scratches.
Make sure the attendant notes each on your contract.

I’m so sorry for your loss

Please accept my condolences, About rental cars, your best choice would be enterprise, Because of my business we always rent from them, you book smaller car online, most likely they dont have it ready and they will upgrade you for free. Just whatever you will do please get the best insurance they have and be worry free if something happened to the car on road. I had to pay $500 because Aston flies from a truck front of rental and break the windshield(my worker taught he saving me money by using cheaper insurance).

Turo hands down.  Other than that I would just shop price as service and other rental experiences don't line up.

I used to travel a lot and we had accounts with Avis, Budget and Enterprise. Never really a problem.

My daughter moved my truck along the fence adjacent to the street (side road) in my neighbor hood. Neighbor hit the truck. We brought it to a friend in the autobody biz and he said the biggest scam is opting for car insurance thru the rental company and advised me not to get it. So if you currently have insurance on your vehicles you may want to contact your insurance company to see if your policy will cover the rental. Especially if you're traveling out of state.

Sorry about your aunt. Really sad to hear.

Rental car prices have obviously gone up the last two years.  When the pandemic started, no one was traveling and therefore, no one was renting cars.  Companies sold a lot of their inventory and have yet to replace all of that.  As we all know, now there's a shortage of automobiles available to replace that lost inventory.

I used Dollar Rent-a-Car in Tampa in 2015 as a part of my travel "package."  Don't ever use them.  They rent out cars from their inventory the same day that people are supposed to bring them back.  So we arrived at the airport at 2pm but we couldn't get our rental car until 3:30pm because that's when the previous person renting it brought it back.  I was not the only one who experienced a problem that day with them.

The last two times I used a rental it was Enterprise because that is who my auto dealership/service has a contract through.  I did not experience any issues.

If you have full insurance coverage on your own vehicle policy, you should have insurance coverage on a rental.  Check your policy to confirm.  I just renewed mine and I read that clause in there.

You should look into Turo. It's like Airbnb, except with cars. People that have an extra vehicle will register it with Turo and people can rent it. I've rented cars 2 times in my life, once from Turo and once from a commercial car rental agency and Turo was much smoother.

You can actually pick the exact car you want to rent, look at pics, reviews, etc.

People have their own fleets of cars on Turo now. Just like someone might own lots of Airbnb rentals.
