I got the 8" mini bolt cutters, saltwater kayaking by myself for Bluefish, Stripers etc wanted to be sure I could cut one off if needed with the least amount of effort.
I've tested them on 4x VMC trebles and they cut them right off.

They would cut any freshwater bass hook like butter.

Thankfully I've never needed them on water.

If you cut the hook, you still got a hook stuck in ya………

still doesn’t seem like a totally necessary boat item for me (although I always have tools to cut through hooks, done it many times to make a mcgyver trolling motor shear pin)

Multiple treble hook baits can offer all kinds of removal 'challenges'.

One treble can be in clothing with the other 1 or 2 are in a hand.

Might be in a hand & still attached to a flopping fish - bad deal.

Managing any of that, alone and usually with one hand, can be a little tricky.

So cutting a hook or two can be needed before any hook(s) extraction from a particular body part, can even begin.

Stay Safe.

If a fish is hooked to me and flopping, his catch and release privileges have been revoked. I think I could bonk it quicker than I could find my side cutter

Granted I’ve never caught a muskie and you don’t bonk those, I guess I would be reaching for all kinds of unhooking/cutting tools with long handles if i did

This...a bass that hooks me and thrashes is going in a frying pan with some seasoning mix and a nice veggie, I prefer to release my bass, but I'm not risking serious medical harm over a fish that is in no way endangered...and muskie may not be the sort you can bonk, but I bet a knife tickling his thinker would probably be a workable substitute.

I'm ordering one. Never been stuck bad but I've heard of people pushing the hook through to get it out. In that case I'd like to be able to cut the eye off. Throw em in the box with my extra prop, shear pins and other tools what the heck.

And ya you're a sitting duck in a kayak. I had a frog fly by right in front of my chest at mach 80 ;) . Those hooks could have gone all the way through. Could probably use some cutters anyways.

Yep. Though nothing can be completely planned for, both times I've been hooked in the hand I had to work the hook along its trajectory and out the other side to cut the barb, then back the hook back out. Now if that's not an option yes things can get complicated. And cutting a whopper popper 110 off your hand while the hook is stuck makes it far less annoying.
