Where would you go in Florida during early June for a good chance at some big bass?  My 11 year old is hounding us to do a bass vacation this year instead of our usual beach trip. We would want to be in an area where we could rent a house with a pool instead of a condo since we will bring my boat. I assume we will be best served by planning early morning trips before it would get hot. I have looked in the Rodman area and it looks like a good fishery, but wanted to get some input from you guys in Florida before committing to a trip that time of year. We normally fish Chickamauga here in TN.

June is a tough month in Fl. Because of high water temps, High heat, little breeze, lots of Hydrilla gnats. We stop fishing on May 30th. If I had to, it would be Stick Marsh, Rent a condo in Vero Beach.

Yup.  June can be miserable down here.  If you want to fish, it's tarpon season.

It's also rainy season (which means scattered and isolated storms), which can make any day on the water a nightmare in a matter of minutes, so be mindful of the skies if you go out.

Like @Ski said Stickmarsh would be a good choice & Headwaters is right next door. The road in takes you by Headwaters ramp about a mile before the Stickmarsh ramp. I would highly recommend Rodman to you but it only safe to travel in the marked lane because of all the underwater stumps. There are areas of Stickmarsh which also has lots of stumps. Headwaters is the safest to navigate of the three it does not have any stump fields because it was a planned build & not a flooded over area filled with trees. Plan on either fishing early or late because of the heat.

Early June isnt as bad as July or August.

If you want to catch big bass , hire this guide- but call asap- he’s usually booked up for months… I think he primarily does Rodman, and the Ocklawaha river area…

Really great options presented here, Rodman/Stick Marsh/Headwaters were my first thoughts. You can still catch some trophies in June (big girls gotta eat, too), but keep in mind they will be close to or at their lightest weight for the year. That lack of belly really hurts the weight, and a 25" fish that would go 10+ in prespawn might only go 8.5 in June. If your goal is a giant, I would plan a trip during prespawn 2023 if that's feasible for you. Otherwise, just hire a good guide on any of the aforementioned lakes, you can still get some truly awesome fish during the summer.

Unless your dead set on largemouth, June has been a very productive month for me peacock bass fishing. Might be worth looking at doing something like fishing the Everglades for bass in the mornings, then peacock fishing in the afternoon.

I live here in Fl, on the St. John’s river. I fish all year round, but…. I fish early morning or evening in June thur August. The bite, I find starts slowing down after 10:00am till after 2:00pm or later. I like fishing up or the mouth other river or creeks, Ocklawaha, Bear  creek, or salt springs run. The water temp drops around the mouth even more up the creeks, and rivers. There is other creeks and stuff too in our area. I don’t know about Rodman in June.
Don’t forget a lot of people know this too and it can get pretty crowded at times. I’ve pulled up to the mouth of the Ocklawaha and seen 10+ boats, all trying to fish the area around the mouth.

I don’t know about places to rent or want your family and friends want to do other than fish.

Hope this helps.

I have suggested this many times over the years.  Turkey Lake in Orlando, right next to Universal Studios.  It is run by Orlando park Department, boat rentals supplied by BPS.  $30 for half a day boat rental, and the only boats on the lake are the ones they supply.  The lake is full of bass of all size.  I have rented at least 8 times whenever I had a conference in Orlando.  You must call and reserve a boat at least a month in advance.  This is the best deal in the entire country.  Then the family can go visit the theme parks.

I have caught bass up to 8 lbs, and I know bigger ones are in there.  You have a boat to yourself with T/M, and depth finder,, and they even supply tackle if you need it!  P.M me if you decide to use the park, I'll give you a bunch of additional info.

Most all the fiheries in Central Florida are good in June. Having fished Chickamgua serveral times you are in for a big culture shock opposite of what I had coming from here to up there! Summer bass in Florida generally get under large mats of vegetation. They can be really active in the early mornings. They will also usually get out and active around mid day for a brief feed as well. I have caught a 5+lb average of Bass in the Stick marsh in June fishing from daylight to 2-3pm...It gets hot! Drink lots of water, but the warm waters do keep the bass metabolisim high so they need to feed. Not sure if you bringing more family or just you and your son. Palm Bay area would offer you quick access to Headwaters and Stick Marsh as well as an Hour to Toho. Not far from the beaches either.
