Super User LrgmouthShad Posted April 12, 2022 Super User Posted April 12, 2022 Hey ya'll, Are there any modifications you make to the blade of a chatterbait or the way it runs that you've found helpful? Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted April 12, 2022 Global Moderator Posted April 12, 2022 A friend of mine who Loves those things makes 2 adjustments. 1) He bends the blade downward to get it to run shallower 2) He also bends the blade on an angle. which he does most of the time, he says that makes then “hunt” better. I don’t throw them enough to make a judgment either way. Mike 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 12, 2022 Global Moderator Posted April 12, 2022 Bending the blade will effect running depth and vibration. You can play with that a bit to get the bait to do what you want. How sharply it's bent and how far back it's bent both play into it. 1 Quote

Please tell me that for $15.00 a pop, Jackhammers are bent at the perfect angle to catch the most and biggest bass under all conditions at the factory. 1 6 Quote

They can’t be. I haven’t caught a bass on a chatterbait yet. Including Jackhammers! 2 Quote
lunkerboss923 Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 Get a pair snips and cut off the line tie of the original chatterbait and put on a VMC Crankbait snap. It runs about as good as a Jackhammer. Jackhammers of course are unbeatable, but these snap definitely help the lure track a ton better. 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted April 13, 2022 Super User Posted April 13, 2022 I would argue that there are other things you can do to a chatterbait besides altering the lure itself to make it run differently. 1) change plastic trailers 2) change reel gear ratio 3) use a heavier model I'm generally trying to make them run deeper and slower. I use a heavier version and use a reel that has a slower gear ratio because its difficult to physically make myself reel it slower. 1 Quote

Super User Columbia Craw Posted April 13, 2022 Super User Posted April 13, 2022 The only thing I do is use a Sharpie to tone the blade down. Red, blue and black. Quote
